North to Scotland

Hoping to get up to north eastern Scotland , Dundee, on Friday (7hrs est) from Derbyshire. The first 80 miles on A1 is boring and full of traffic. Then hitting the A68 is whoa where did that switch back come from, over the border at Carter Bar. Petrol /Gas is rare nowadays on the A68 so I plan to refuel at ~100 mile intervals at Fir Tree and Lauder, "butt" permitting.
Sunday is the annual run of the Scottish Classic Motorcycle Club, all welcome, and involves 100 miles plus of obscure, gravelly and nadgery minor roads in the highlands starting in the city of Brechin this year. Luckily I will be following my BIL, who is the club chairman and usually takes his Norton Commando Interpol 850. The actuality will be reported, health and age permitting.

Sounds like a great trip. I’ve never been to Scotland but have seen some beautiful photos of the landscape. Post up some photos!

Maybe I’ll get there someday-one of my (many) bucket list items is to see the Scottish Six Days Trial. I thought at one point when I was a lot younger that I’d like to ride it but I’ll just have to be satisfied with being a spectator these days.

Scotland has some of the finest biking roads in Britain. And country roads there don't seem nowadays to be blighted by the criminal lack of maintenance that's characterised English roads throughout the last austerity decade. It's estimated that it'll take ten billion to repair the existing infrastructure to a decent standard, so long as no further murderous potholes appear in the meantime.

I remember a wonderful tour up to Aviemore and further along the A95 past the legendary Glenfiddich Distillery ( hic ). Then the next morning, back southwards along the A96 to the Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen.

Memorable, especially all three of us having to buy new rear tyres mid-trip - those magnificent granite-chipped road surfaces mean you can go round corners at any speed you like, but they rip the guts out of your tyres..

My bike in the middle outside Brechin Golf Course at the end of a great run around Angus. Plus a random picture at the lunch time halt.
Using Flickr, what a faff to open the account.

If you are using a Windows based system, use the arrow for then Share button and use the image adress from that. It will give you different sizing options.

My favourite bike in its class. I rode a basic GS version in the late 1970s iirc.

1970s Suzuki Cobra. Quite a few of the old 2 strokes are being resurrected nowadays.

Love the Suzuki! I’ve got a fondness for them as my first bike was an ‘65 X6 Hustler, that I got in 1970. Love the sound of a 2 stroke engine. :)

Brings back memories of my own:

1st bike 1965 Honda Super 90
2nd bike 1968 Superhawk 305
3rd bike 1972 CB 750 (which I still have)
