While riding my R1100RT today, I inadvertently lowered the shield instead of raising it. Now, I can't get it to raise. Is this controlled by a fuse or relay? Can't find squat in the Clymer manual nor the BMW Service and Technical Booklet which came with the bike. Unless I overlooked it, there is nothing on the wiring diagrams in the Clymer manual.
I'm beginning to really dislike this cycle.

Re: Electric Windshield Failure
Thanks sweatmark for the links. They answer my questions. This bike was "off the road" for about a year and there is a good chance it sat outside in the cold in Northern VA. I should feel fortunate no more electrical problems have popped up.
I have joined the Sport Touring board and am waiting for email confirmation before I can post there.
By the title of this forum, I thought I was in the right place for R1100RT as I see that listed above.

LOL - yes this forum's title is certainly all-inclusive, but the object of our desire is the boxer "R" roadster/naked/standard oilhead model.WhiteDog wrote: By the title of this forum, I thought I was in the right place for R1100RT as I see that listed above.
You will be in good hands over in bmwsporttouring.

Yes, it would appear so. I've already been contacted by a fellow R1100RT rider not more than 25 miles from me, if that far. Small world. We have the same engine, correct?

Yes, the Type 259 oilhead BMWs are all kissing cousins: from 1993 through 2005ish - R850s, R1100s R1150s, and the R1200 Cruiser. The R1200 Hexheads are close kin, but represent an important evolutionary step in the family tree.WhiteDog wrote:Yes, it would appear so.
