Higest vs lowest gas milage?

Post by Woland »

So what I want to know is whats the highest and lowest gas mileage you managed on your R?

My personal record is 7,2l/100km (about 32miles/gallon) on a highway with an average speed of about 145km/h for about 200km.

My personal low is 4,8l/100km (about 48miles/gallon) on secondary roads at moderate speeds between 60-90km/h for about 250km.

In town (Chicago suburbs) my average was 42mpg. But once i went on my 4000 mile trip around the SW of US i zeroed my gas millage and now i got 50mpg. And i was doing a 100mph in a death valley, lots of twisties in mountain passes, I was never trying to hit a high number on my trip.
As for the lowest gas millage I never tried to find that limit so not sure.

Lowest - around 38 MPG. Highest - around 58 MPG (and that was measured by filling the tank and resetting the trip meter.)

38 MPG is around town when it's cold out (below 40F.) The 58 MPG was on the break-in ride (from NJ to the RA rally in North Carolina.) My usual is around 45-50 MPG for average riding.

My 09 R12R's usual is 42-45 mix town and highway. Just did 250 miles, 5.0 gal from NJ to VT including an hour of stop and stop traffic on I-84 - In VT, I tend to get a bit lower due to hills and dirt roads. In NJ (FLAT...), I am doing a bit better. At last the bike is doing better than the Civic Hybrid :)

Beth's 12 R12R did 47 down from VT to NJ last weekend - just one section of slow traffic on the Merritt - I finally third lane'd it since the temp guage was climbing fairly high. What I get for stopping for a Smoke Chase BBQ in Fairfield, CT.

I hit 191 MPG yesterday coming down a very long grade. Seemed to drop dramatically when I let the clutch out.

Over the past 12 weeks I have run the bike with a very heavy load. At high speeds (75-80 MPH) I was getting 36 MPG. At moderate speeds (55-65 MPH) I could get 42 MPG. The bike is an aerodynamic nightmare when loaded for extended trips on which one plans to camp a great deal.

I only ride my bike on rural mountain roads and highways. Very little in town. Seems like I always get over 50 miles per gallon whether I am running at higher revs or letting the engine loaf. 52 or more consistently.

According to Fuelly, my average is ~46mpg, with a best ever of 67.3mpg (mostly lugging it on secondary roads). The very lowest I've done was 25mpg & that was stuck in a lot of traffic riding around NYC.

Overall about 45mpg but after adding BMW fuel sys cleaner at 20k mi as the dealer recommended, I think the mileage actually went up 4-5 mpg.

Not sure of highest and lowest. I'm averaging 45Mpg with 3070 miles on the bike. I calculate at fill up based on gas filled and mileage ridden so not relying on bikes computer.

I ride about 70/30 mix of highway at 75mph and country roads at 45 Mph.

Average 51 - 54.

I get the higher mileage when loaded with camping gear and riding off to the camp site. The lower number happens around town.

Some of my riding buddies say I ride too fast. Others hint that because I am so slow, they would rather I didn't tag along with them. I think my speeds are always reasonable and proper.

I average around 42-44MPG. I've seen it as low as 16-20 MPG in DC's stop(mostly) & go(sometimes) rush hour traffic, but that isn't really fair.

the best I have achieved on my R is 58 mpg...

Just a thought i have a BMW 3 series 320d, yesterday on a run from Bournemouth to Newcastle (356m) i achieved 64 mpg.

Whay can't bike companies make a bike with similar or better M.pg

Well, for one, it would have to be a diesel bike?

A UK gallon is 20% more than a US gallon so not the same mpg comparison.

US gallon is 3.785 litres and a UK gallon is 4.546 litres.

I can only work on u.k gallons...come on you have got to admit 64 mpg is pretty impressive for a biggish car with 180 bhp....if motorcycle companies put there minds to it you could have better mpg with good performance figures..don't really know price of fuel in U.S but here it is over £6 a gallon!!!!

Or a F800, if you're careful you can get great mileage on those bikes.

I only mentioned it because of the comparison to the 320d. Which I wish we could get here in the states.
