hi all
please what aftermarket exhausts does everyone use.
would like something light that will slip straight on , chrome boat anchor just has to go .
my first choice is akrapovic , but would try somthing a little less expensive.

Less expensive would be remus

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects handlebars to the saddle.

Re: exhaust
The Akro I put on my 08 R1200R last month slipped on very easily. I am very happy with it. I think the Remus hex cone is better looking and some guys like the Staintune. The Akropovic was surprisingly cost effective.

Re: exhaust
You get what you pay for, and while bloody expensive, the Akro is just fabulous all around.
Mine has about 45,000 miles on it and sounds the same it did the day I bought it, and would look the same if it hadn't had a bike dropped on it....
Add another happy Arko customer.

I just got farkled again!
An Akrapovic titanium can is on its way for my bike.
In time, I will let the forum know how the new one goes on the 2011.

Re: exhaust
hi chitown
is that a gs sump guard i see under your bike ??
great idea and useful ,few weeks back travelling to work and a big stone flicked up when someone in front ran over it and lucky for me it hit the exhaust and now i have a small dent . now if it hit the sump ? . i might not have got off so light .
the guard will keep a lot of rubbish off as well .
looks great anyway.

Re: exhaust
I am in the market for a new exhaust, any thoughts about the Laser system?
Re: exhaust
I had a Laser titanium on my K1200S and it's a great system, I think it would look very cool on the boxer.pikeman59 wrote:I am in the market for a new exhaust, any thoughts about the Laser system?

Re: exhaust
hi all
so quite a few options then , em ,been looking all over the net .i have a akro on a gs ,they are really good .its a lot of money for a item that makes a noise .
the other can that gets my vote is the laser . 1/3 of the price . so i think i will give it a try ,it is stainless instead of titanium. i can live with that and anything is better than the boat anchor attached at the minute, could never understand why they put huge ugly exhausts on with plumbing inside everywhere , must cost a fortune designing a 15 kg boat anchor , probably all the emission nonsense.
anyway thanks for all the replies .
pics to follow in a week or so .

Re: exhaust
Just ordered a Laser exhaust, thank you for your input.
I also ordered a Trophy flyscreen from Wunderlich.
I will get back with pictures when they are on the bike.

UPDATE! New Akrapovic for the 2011 R1200R now installed
I didn't mind the tone of the standard can. Also it wasn't too bad looking, albeit quite round and fat. I got used to it. BUT place it in a direct comparison with the new Akrapovic and well, this new can is sweet music to my ears! Not cheap but really how many farkles are?
Easy install - Much lighter in weight than the original can. The colour compliments the bike well - Did I tell you how sweet those bassy burbling tones are?
Heat shielded Akrapovic sticker had to go as it was too large with several colours, therefore not as subtle as I would of liked. Peeled off sticker and soaked remaining gum with WD40. Then gently wiped off gum with a soft cloth. Manufacturers instructions call for the can to be cleaned with WD40.This works well.
I am not sure why they needed to etch all of those euro standard numbers on the end of the can. Why not underneath or on the back?
Notice the Mudsling farkle?
Hold you breath when stopped with the wind blowing the exhaust back towards you. The can gives off a strong odour which I am sure will disappear in time.

Great...... Now I'm hooked. Gonna be responsible though and save up over the winter. (Not the norm for me)
It looks amazing. Thanks for the update.

Re: exhaust
And for those interested in knowing what the Akropovic sounds like with the baffles in, here is something I put together a while back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJIUFaYF8sY
And speaking of music, here is something I just finished that might appeal to the guitar players in the forum: http://www.americanluthier.us

Re: exhaust
I got a polished stainless Zetechnik from Beemer Boneyard for $279. The can is actually made for the RT but if you can drill a hole in the mounting tab it fits the R just fine. The sound is deeper with a bit more growl but not overbearing due to the cat. Zetechnik also claims this can never needs repacking. I don't think you can beat the price of this exhaust plus it looks and sounds great on the bike! http://www.beemerboneyard.com/ztnckr1200rtso.html
