Hand signal interpretations

Post by Jaguar5 »

This is clearly not a high-priority topic, so to the off-topic area it goes.

Recently I have seen several riders flash me a hand sign of which I do not know the meaning. This gesture is equivalent to an upside-down hand sign for "okay." Does anyone have any information on what this gesture means?

Someone recently mentioned that it may be a "finger-trap" game, but I cannot find any information on this either. They even forwarded me an image of the gesture. It looks like this:

What in the world are these riders trying to tell me?

If a person does the hand signal somehwere on their body below the waist and says, "Hey look"... and you do...they are entitled to punch you in the shoulder. If you are able to get your finger in their hole before they remove the hand signal...you get to punch them instead. This counter punch is rare...and your best bet is to refrain from looking. Plus, if the original person (with the hand signal) can catch your finger...he again gets to do the punching. It's a game that is usually instigated by the most annoying kid in class.

That's how we played it in Jr. high school.

Now, how that relates to motorcycles... :?:

Is it only flashed at night, like in that picture?

...um...no, I have only SEEN it during the day. Well, except for that one-dimensional, hollow, chalk-colored guy riding a nearly transparent Honda Shadow the other night. 8-[

Yeah, I hate it when those guys ride by.

That hand signal may be the newer generation just telling you something "kinky". You never know. Maybe they're warning you of an "O" ring in the road.

That is an obscene hand gesture everywhere in the world except the US. Maybe they don't like your riding style ;)

Sure they are not just showing you the two finger salute?

...interesting...I had no idea. Thinking back to the situations, I can think of absolutely no reason for the gesture. None of them were fellow BMW riders...maybe that is it.

By the way...let me go on record as apologizing to any of our international members that may have been offended by my posting of the image (whatever it means).
