MOA Rally?

Post by OU812 »

Anyone here going? Anyone want to go and head south to FLA to visit family afterward. My wife does not want me riding alone and there is room for one at my cousin's North of Daytona.

Yes, I'm going.
Plan as of today:
Leaving the Sat or Sunday before the rally, and cruising Appalachia for a few days, and I think I'll be volunteering for a Wed entry.
I plan on spending a day in Asheville, NC to size up the place....

Last day of the rally I'm home bound.

I planning on attending however, it will be a drive-by for me.
Leaving Weds morning and arriving that night, heading home on Sat morning.

BTW, I plan to travel light and stay in Little Havana.

I was under the impression that some of the folks who usually attend a certain Virginia State Park gathering in August were doing an un-official official get together in that vicinity on or around the time of the MOA Rally.....In July.

I personally am planning a PRE-MOA Rally ride up to Maine the week before..Errr, maybe leaving around the 7th and getting back south for the Rally about July 17th.
I DO have relatives in Florida, but by that time I will have to hurry back to Boxer HQ to get back to work.

I'm tentatively planning on the rally, then heading south to Pinehurst NC (its not FLA, but the proper direction). I planning to camp at the MOA. Would like to share camping area with other roadster freaks (my first MOA, how does one do this?).

Dave,
You find the place and ride around to locate a suitable spot to place your tent. Once you unload and stake your claim, you take a walk up to registration and get your stuff and check in. Once you have the little plastic bracelet, you can come and go off site as you please.

Note: There are so many people and bikes at these things, it is next to impossible to locate people/groups once you're there. The best tactic is to ride in together and get a spot "together" from the start.

2nd Note: The first two items at the top can be done in reverse. IOW check in then find a spot.

As the rally gets closer, and plans solidify, this board will be full of riders coordinating. Stay close to the Group rides Section. Collect cell phone numbers via PM for those that are coming from behind you.

That's how I met TonyT and his crew and it's now a family affair, well past motorcycles......

The Rally is like a tornado.... you will get swept up, and have a great time, purely via inertia, just have to get in the path :)

Here's a way to camp without the hassle of bringing a tent. They'll be at least one other Beakster rider in "Little Havana" with you if choose this option (me).

Challey: SherpaMayberry! That's hilarious, I love it (wish I'd thought of it first)! I"ll definitely stop by for a visit---this I gotta see. Unfortunately, I'm already geared up...maybe I can spend the money on a new tire or something. If I can find a way to check into "little Havana" but bring my own house, I'm there.

sjbmw: "The Rally is like a tornado.... you will get swept up, and have a great time, purely via inertia, just have to get in the path." That's beautiful dude! No really. An analogy a guy from AR can appreciate.

Thanks for the tips guys. Keep em coming.

I'll be there as well. I'm staying with Paris Hilton's Sherpa Service (Hampton Inn).

Yep, I'm heading up earlier in the week (Tuesday/Wednesday, I think) and planning a leisurely 2-day ride home to Florida on Sunday/Monday. I'm not near Daytona, but can probably make it to within a few hours away before splitting. Not sure of my route/plan for the way home, yet.

Summer school? :-k
Assuming I have the courage to ride my aging bike to Maine and back when the time comes, I will get back from a long ride just as I make it to the rally. After the rally, I will need some recuperating time before heading back to work the last week of July. Thats right! The school year begins the first week of August and we have to be back for what they call "pre-planning" the week before. No, not summer school. Just an extended regular school year.

Not like the old days. "Why, when I was young...." :smt102

Too much school for the kids, and too little riding time for the teachers.

duckdave,
How are you carrying your golf clubs to Pinehurst on your bike?
