Presumably - the post appeared - I'd call that successful. :)

"Bandwidth exceeded" for several day. I guess my bands are too wide.

I wonder if the site is going under. I hope not. Its helped me so much. Bought my bike new and only until a few years ago have I been able to do all my own maintenance. I remember accomplishments like my first successful fuel filter replacement or adjusting my valves knowing that they were spot on. I still have the HE wiring to do. Will look closer when I replace my battery which is due. I worry about the clutch splines and I don't have the confidence to do a clutch teardown. Thinking about a new bike but the roadster will be hard to replace.

Same here.

The ISP obviously has a limit on how much data this server can use, so the more we visit.... the more data we use. :(

This is standard practise for most ISPs and nothing 'sinister'. Doug would need to pay more money to the ISP to allow the taps to be opened a bit more and prevent the blockage. Unfortunately, I believe that the forum's current financial state is not in that position (and it would be wrong of us to expect Doug to pay out of his own pocket for this).

I wonder if how we log on or off has any bearing. I exchanged an email with the fella with the site hosting outfit. Something he said made me wonder if just simply closing the window still left me logged on. So I wonder if physically logging off the site prior to closing the window is something I should start doing? If we don't log off properly are we still using resources?

Hi guys, I dont think that would matter Tower.

Rice is correct in his assumptions. We have a limit imposed based on the amount I can afford for bandwidth. As it is, the site no longer pays for itself. I have been in board update hell the last few months, and more recently solved a few lingering issues. I think some still persist. I've even spoken with one of the head guys of PHPBB to help, but we ran into unsolvable issues. I am at a loss as to what to do. 99.9% of new registrations are spam, so I have disabled new registrations - if someone wants to make an account, send me an email and I'll help facilitate that.. I literally have over 10K spam accounts to erase, and as many posts to erase. Its a really crappy rote job :).

I believe the site going forward will act as a reference for folks and as those spam accounts (the real cause of the traffic), will die in time.

I am doing my best to keep it going for you all and do apologize about some of the issues.

I, for one, really appreciate all you have done through out the years. It has been a great source of information and also led to countless friendships and group rides. I totally understand if and when the site has to retire. Thanks for the ride!

What Buckster said!

Let us know what we can do to help?

I was a bit hesitant when I tapped ?? twice just a moment ago. In the past oft times I'd try to log in and get dumped off. Seems to work!

Yes I dont know if that part is fixed, but if its still broken, at least we'll know its the forums fault not the server. :)

ps there will be some growing pains while I transition the site from the old server to this one. for example, r1150r.org still points to the old one, and r1150r.net points here, but some of the pics and stuff got broken, and I'm looking into see if thats solvable or if I need to continue paying for the old domain name..

Thanks! I'm still working out some snafus.. the .org component of the site was down, and it should be back up in a day or so..

The host just saw the size of our data base and wants to triple the costs.. [sigh]
