Getting better every time I ride it

Post by Mrclubike »

I bought the R1150R last summer and I have to say I wasn't real happy with it at first
But
After getting the handle bars back further
Switching the beak for a K front fender
Lowering the pegs
Installed GS torque rod to raise it up for the lowered pegs
Sorting out the low speed surging(bad stick coil)
New fuel tank,Original was rusted in side from sitting
Fixed the leaking oil cap
Front fender extender
It now has 15000miles on it from the 8000 it had when I got it
I can now say I really am enjoying this bike :D
The fuel mileage is going up and it is getting smother
I still don't know if the oil consumption is going down for sure but I suspect it is
Now I cant really stand riding my R65 anymore so it definitely needs to go

I bet the tank was a lot of $$$. Did you buy it new or used?

I got lucky and found a like new used one on eBay for $300 USD

The original tank is probably salvageable but for $300 i didn't feel like messing with it

Thanks
I like it also over the silver tank
Not a big fan of Chrome and silver together

Black and chrome is good
Like on my English 3speed Club bike

Mrclubike, could you please tell me which or what K bike that front fender is from, and if you had to do much modification to mount it? I've seen a couple similar , but don't know how much rework it takes.
Really like the colors together !

Some don't like the look of the stock front fender. I'm told it's designed to channel the wind - in order to plant the front end at speed. Is that right ?

The eBay listing shows it from a 98-01 K1200RS
Removed the Beak and it bolted straight on with no mods
I may of had to get new bolts

I'm not positive, but I think the wind was designed to be directed to the oil coolers.

From what I have read the front fender shape is just for styling
No real function

My Rockster comes with an ordinary mudguard as std not that ugly thing that’s on all ‘R’s so there can’t be any truth in diverting wind.

One seldom recognized attribute of R1150R: the GVWR allows lots of capacity for 2-up touring, or attaching lots of extra crap if so desired. Looks like you've made the bike your own.

I dont think you have enough spaces to store stuff on it. I think you can add a couple more saddle, tank and handle bar bags!!!

Awesome work done! Mine is a similar combo with the original silver tank.

I loved this bike the first time I rode it. Not that I needed "1 more bike" but I had to have this one. This is one cool, calm, composed bike that holds its own. I LOVE the stance and bull-dog look to it.
