test drove an 03 r1150rt and think i may buy it.
it feels like just what I want to replace my Valkyrie after 222k (she's getting a little heavy for me) - this 1150 has 44k and the seller may take $4000 for it. any advice?

Mileage, owner history, and service history.
Most beemers this information is easy to get.
Personal wrenchers usually save every parts document, and dealer servicers have all the receipts.

If you don't mind wrenching a bit, these are nearly perfect motorcycles.
if not done, Immediately:
-flush ALL brake circuits especially if ABS equipped.
-flush the clutch line.
those can quickly become "gotchas" to me, personally, It appears that age and lack of use are the biggest culprits, not mileage.
In retrospect, Id buy I high mileage but well maintained bike before another garage sitter. only annoying little problems, never stranded me yet though.

thanks. I did buy it and now have to learn how to maintain. I just filled up the tank w 89 octane and i'm finding out if I should run 91 octane in it. if so, would an octane booster or sea foam type product be ok until I burn up this 89 octane tankful?

I'm on my 3rd 1150, currently an '05 Rt I bought just over 2 years ago with 40K. I've now about 57K. I've found on my previous two 1150R's that while I actually got maybe a bit better fuel mileage on 89 (55-57mpg-at 60mph) 91-93 would run better overall. I consistently get over 50 on my RT if I don't twist the throttle too hard.
The 1150's are dead reliable provided you especially stay on top of the ABS service. And easy to work on although removing the fairing gets to be a PITA. My previous R1150R's spoiled me. I've never felt the need to run an octane booster but then again 89-93 octane is readily available where I live in Virginia. I have always run a few ounces of Seafoam every 1000 miles or so. I think I've logged about 200K between 2 R's and one RT in the last 19 years. Great bikes. Welcome to the forum!
