Going to look at a 2007 R12R today

Post by pit0rz »

Aside from the typical things to look at, anything that I need to specifically look at or ask about? I know there are some recall items (wheel flange / fuel strip?)

Maintenance history will be important. Also, looking at the pictures of the bike this jumped out on me:
Image
The cable routing from the throttle grip through the bar mounts... This doesn't look right to me.

Also the wheels are black. Every 2007 I see in pics has silver wheels.

Thanks!

I think you're right and there is something going on with the throttle cable. On my '07 there's a solid casting in that area with no physical way to even route the cable like that. Also, maybe it's just the photo but the bars look like they have more rise than the stock ones. Take a browse thru the photo section.

Went and looked at / rode the bike. It has bar backs / risers on it and the throttle cable goes 'under' the bar back. I will probably take these off.
Front rotors were shot, dealer is going to replace those. Otherwise the bike checked out! Can't wait to pick it up once they get the rotors swapped out.

My 07 had a fuel pump recall. Also, the one item that failed more than once on mine was the clutch interlock switch, so maybe you want to make sure the engine'll start in gear with the clutch lever pulled in.

Thanks! I'll check that out.

Any input on the wheels? I'm assuming these were painted. 07's were silver, right?

Before you sign the papers and take it home, have the dealer take a look at the fuel tank under the fuel filler cap and behind the alternator belt cover. Based on some issues discovered by members of this forum, serious corrosion may be present.

These issues are discussed here:

and here:

Who knows, the dealer may address them if they occur.

Dealer ordered new rotors, coming from Germany... someday.
They said 10 days. When they call me saying it's done I'll go ride it again and look into the things mentioned here.

I did decide to purchase. Took 6 weeks for the dealer to get the new rotors!
No corrosion found as mentioned above. This bike is a hoot and a huge improvement over my R1150R that I traded in.
