Frame brace?

I was at a shop the other day and they had a R1100r with these Touratech braces on the frame where it meets the tranny. The bike had a big ugly weld on the right side where it had broke. My question is this...is this a common problem? The braces are still available so should I get a set ? Thanks

as per my knowledge this used to be primarily a problem with the GS models than with the R models. Hence I would not worry much if you have the R ...
