Considering R1100R

Post by mrtfnt »

I am new to this board and am considering an R1100R. It is a 2000 model with 26,000 miles. It has an aftermarket ferring and BMW saddlebags. Is $4,000 too much? NADA says $2722 and KBB says $4030. Big discrepancy. Any insight would be appreciated. I am located in Oklahoma.

I have a 2000 R11R. I bought mine with 34K on it for $4,500. Of course it came with a lot of extras too (hand guards, heated vest, all the luggage, two wind screens, etc. I'd start with something around $3K if you're sure you want the bike. I'd also look for other deals too...a move up to an 1150 or a 1200 if you could afford it might be nice too!

I bought mine two years ago from San Diego BMW for $5,000, it is a 1995 and had 38,000 miles, it had a lot of extras: new windshield, tachometer, clock, lowered exhaust muffler, side cases incluiding a larger left one, Givi top case rack and case, Ohlins front shock, K&N air filter, it was immaculate... detailed, serviced, new rear tire..

I paid $950 to ship it to Miami and then $2,700 to ship it and import into Panama, where I live. So I spent around $8,700.

With that amount of money I could have bought a 2005 R1150R that was being sold locally for $8,000 but without all that extras.

I never regret my decision because It was the bike I wanted, even knowing the 1150 is a better bike I had a preference for the 1100. (I dont like the 1150's beak and at that moment I didn't know it could be swapped, neither like the strange form of the instruments gauge), I felt I was getting a better deal having all the extras, both are scarce (only one of each was sold by the dealer down here) so getting it imported was my best option.

End of the story: if that is the bike you want and you are willing to pay for it, go ahead, it will never be so much. But.. try to negociate first. I think it should be in the $3,500 ballpark.
