Just FYI.... there's a Rockster Edition 80 on eBay with a "bad clutch." The description sounds like an input shaft failure.

maduko - good link, thanks. Betcha you're right about the drivetrain failure.
Crusty
Sounds like it.
I just looked at the photos a little more closely. Check that carbon cannister!
Man, I thought mine was crusty. I'm surprised it's still able to support it's own weight!

Chalk up a complete failure of splines at 31k miles. That bike looks like it may have been abused a bit judging by the dent in the rear rim. Looks like it could be a steel if you wanted to take the time to replace the clutch parts and rear rim. Sad to see another victim of drive train failure.

Yep....another spline failure.....
Number 38 of 2003....don't touch it unless you have good mechanical skills, deep pockets or you can buy it for 2K. That bike has too many ills and unknowns and has been maintained just as it looks. The erosion on the cylinder cooling fins and the rust on the carbon canister puzzle me......Reno is a hot and dry .....if it is originally from that area......

It's a can, about the size of a 12 oz beer can, filled with activated charcoal and located right above the rear wheel on the right rear side of the bike. This is a requirement of all US bikes for emission purposes, it captures gas vapors from the fuel tank, I noticed your bike doesn't have it.........some European bikes as well as British, Aussie and New Zealand bikes do not require it.

I can't believe someone offered $3k for it and even more surprised the seller's reserve was even higher!
