Hungry Mother 2012

Post by Boxer »

The time has arrived to start planning ahead for our annual group ride to Hungry Mother State Park for a weekend of riding, camping, and other fun in the hills of western Virginia.

http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/hun.shtml

This year we will be gathering on the weekend of August 10th and 11th. If you arrive early, you'll need to make additional accommodations for Thursday night. If you don't camp but want to join in the fun anyway, you'll need to find a motel room in nearby Marion or rent one of the cottages in the park.

I have reserved all 11 sites in Loop "C". The cost for two nights camping at each site in Loop C is $47 (they went up $2 per night per site this year) If you would like to join us please send me $47 and place a note here in this thread that you are attending. I would prefer a check but Paypal works also. ( I just lose some of the money with Paypal fees). Send checks to:
Phil Albritton
1210 Cousins Rd.
Woodstock, GA 30188

Paypal to bykerphil at yahoo dot com

Only the first 10 people need to send in that $47. Once the bill is paid, others who attend can double up on the sites and pay half the site cost to the person you're camping with. I'll keep everyone appraised of the status of that in this thread.

So! Make your plans now and come join us. The park is beautiful! The campsites are spectacular! The roads are unequaled, and the evening discussions are enlightening.

Friday night we will be having the traditional meal with dancing girls to entertain us. Saturday lunch is a grab it wherever you are riding and then Saturday evening we'll gather again for a meal together somewhere.

I'm in! Thanks for stepping up this year Phil.

I know how it feels to put the whole thing on the credit card, so I will get you a check in the mail tomorrow!

(Was going to paypal you tonight but will send the check since you prefer that. Have to get the checkbook from the wife. I never use that thing any more! )

If you have never attended, trust me, the campground is awesome and the roads are great!

You got it! I'll make some route sheets and everyone should be happy about Saturday's riding.

Hey... you scheduled it on my birthday. Do I get a cake? ;)

I will probably try to get a cabin or motel room. Sleeping on the ground doesn't agree with the old body. My pal Sig may tag along. Perhaps I can talk him into riding his 30 year old Honda.

I can chip in if all the camping sites aren't spoken for.

JB, I hope to have a movie to show and it will be almost as good as a cake. Glad to hear you and Sig are coming. Get you one of those HM cabins again.

They generally only rent the cabins on a weekly basis (Sunday to Saturday).

I just checked and there are only 2 cabins available for those dates, and you have to rent them for 7 days.

Last year I just got lucky. There was one cabin that wasn't rented within a week of the desired dates. They let me rent it for the weekend rather than let it sit empty.

Looks like I might have to settle for one of those less than desirable rooms in town.

DSKYZD - nice walk down memory lane. I remember my hands turning dark from the dye in the gloves after riding in the rain all day!

And I believe that was the weekend I met Camelletti too. Nice to remember the good times.

I am trying to remember whether I had the red R or the silver R for HM1. I do remember having 2-3 inches of water inside my tent, Vann's dyed hands and the BBQ joint.
