Took two of our R1150R's on a five day ride to shake down the project bike we restored, the black one with ABS. It started out to be a project cafe racer but it got restored back to stock so far. We have now put 3,000 miles on it so far and it's running and riding great. We took the bikes on 6 of the top 10 motorcycle roads in Northern California. Highways 299, 3, 96, 36, 32 and 49
Day1 Nevada City to Alturas taking the Quincy/La Porte forest road which was actually still closed (snow) but we went around the signs. Had a little snow on the sides of the road but wasn't really to bad.
Day2 Alturas Hwy 299 thru Redding across to Hwy 3 up to Yreka.
Day3 Yreka Hwy 96 thru Happy Camp down to Hwy 299 to Weaverville. Then we headed to Fortuna picking up Hwy 3 to Hwy 36 and on into Fortuna.
Day4 Fortuna up Hwy 101 to Hwy 299 back over to Weaverville and Hwy 3 down to Hwy 36 this time east to Red Bluff. We then headed down to Chico to pick up some parts at Ozzie's BMW for the R1100S project bike. From Ozzie's we took Hwy 32/36 to Susanville.
Day5 Out of Susanville back to Nevada City we took Hwy 89 and 49.
Total miles 1540 of the best twisty highways in Nor-Cal. MPG between 45 and 47 on both bikes. Best burger Five Marys in Fort Jones.
All these Highways are great twisty motorcycle roads, 36 has a lot of construction and is closed during the week working hours 8 to 5, we hit it after five when it was open. Highway 299 has a lot of traffic, all the other highways have little to no traffic.

Sounds like a great ride! I struggle to find an hour or two to ride at times, so seeing someone else's long ride photos is the next best thing ;)

How much progress at CA36 work zone? It was torn up last June when I rode up from east Bay Area, the excellent 1 lane roller coaster ride nothing but a memory. Oh well that's progress.

Is CA3 clean over the top?

Good burgers also in Chester.

Ok now you've primed the pump for my annual NorCal ride, trying to squeeze 2 trips into this year, before and after fire season.

Highway 36 has heavy construction in both directions between Highway 3 heading towards Bridgeville. It's not continues construction but about 8 major project areas. 36 is actually closed to traffic in this stretch 8-5 M-F, open on the weekend days. Couple of zones are very soft dirt but not long, maybe 1/8 mile. 36 from 3 to Red Bluff is open and no construction, Tar Snakes coming into the end by Red Bluff.
Ca 3 is clean, no traffic and a lot of fun.
Never stopped in Chester but if your that close to Susanville try this place for a really good Burger, didn't try the Beer, we were a little dehydrated from the days ride. https://www.lassenaleworks.com/home
Question for you Sweatmark: What is the road like between Gold Beach and Merlin/Grants Pass? Will highway tires work on the R bikes on this road?
