Drive Shaft Leak

Post by Maitre »

I had the bike in the 90 deg sun all day today and found a good amount of oil leaking from the drive shaft (seeping out through the breather vent in the middle of the black cap).
I have pictures but do not know how to post them. How serious is it? Dealer is about 25 miles away. Can I ride it to him or should I have the bike delivered to him?
Thanks.

This problem was well covered on this site in October last year (when I had a similar problem.) You can ride the bike if it is a short distance but perhaps better to trailer the bike if you are still under warranty. The seals are not expensive but the labour can cost a bit.

I have had the seals replaced 3 times on my roadster, but I have also ridden 800 miles in a weekend after seeing the leak. A quick ride over to the dealer should not be a problem. All repairs were done under warranty.

Thank you. I will ride the bike to the dealer and save $100 on delivery. All the best to everyone.
