Hi Rob, thanks for the input, I'll check those wires. How did you figure out the broken connections though? I'm guessing visual inspection after pulling away the wire wrapping?

Hi, Yes, I sliced down the outer sheath and found wires snapped and about too- it was plain to see.
Its a bitch do do on your own, you need another pair of hands with pin pliers to hold things when you solder.

All the best,
Rob.

As well engineered as these bikes are its nerve-racking how avoidable some of the complications they develop are. I mean I'm sure there's some genius at BMW Motorrad who understand the tensile resistance of all materials known to man, that he couldn't figure that plastic ties choking copper wires like vice grips would eventually break them seems preposterous to me. But what do I know... I'm just a beauty-whipped goof who's in love with a German model named 'Bridgette'!

Thanks for all the pointers by the way, I'll keep you posted......

OK before I go skinning wires 'willy-nilly', I wanted to find out from you guys which is the more problematic side the left hand side harness or the right hand side harness.... the pictures will say it better.... as you can see I took off the tank =D> - thanks Sweatmark for the Youtube clip :D , now I need to know which wires to mess with..... This....

Oh and the background to all this, for those who haven't read the entire thread and have no inclination to so do, my bike cut off in traffic and has not fired up since, I'm installing new Jiffy-tite QC's and a new Odyssey PC 680 battery but also wanted to address the wire-harness issue.

Thanks.

Hi,

I checked both sides. Only the outer sheath appeared split on the right side (assuming you are on the bike)
I found the breaks on the left nearest the bottom of the steering head.
Hope this helps,
Rob.

Thanks Rob, I'll start from there, it looks quite daunting and I didn't want to start off too far off center if you catch my drift..... I'm pissed off enough sitting by and watching the good weather go by whilst my bike collects dust..... :-X Hopefully I'm back in business this weekend.... at least thats my target... I'm searching for a good DIY for the Jiffy-Tite QC's and I should be good.....

I ended up taking it to the dealer and they eventually replaced the starter and one of the stick coils. It took them a long time to come up with that combination to get it running again. I have no further explanation.

good luck

Thanks all for the excellent input, this weekend I slapped on an Odyssey PC 680 and Jiffy-Tite QC's. The toughest part was cutting through the crimp clamps on the OEM QC's  , what a PITA. But all is well, like a woman past labor my joy was made complete when my second attempt at starting Bridgette was rewarded with a deep and reassuring Vroom :D ! I'm on two again! YES!

The ride to work was blissful! Had the bike inspected during my lunch break! Yeah, I only rode because I needed to get the bike inspected :^o - not even my boss would buy that! Yes I am a Rockster-dict (rockster+addict... get it) and I got my fix

Can't wait to ride her home!
