What Year for the F800?

Post by Xdot »

I continue to explore the idea of picking up an F800ST to replace my R1150R. I love the R but am looking for something that could be made a bit quieter. I've seen some great aftermarket windscreens, and with the fairing on the F800ST, it looks like I could stop damaging my hearing from wind noise!

So, what years should I avoid on the F800? I vaguely recall a few posts talking about early years being problematic but can't remember where I saw them or exactly what they said as I was not really looking at these bikes at the time. Can any of you gurus help me out here? 2007 was the first year, right?

Cyclerob's is a 2009 or 2010 and I don't think he's found anything wrong with it so far. I would look for an '09 used.

FWIW - our 2007 F800S has suffered from known weaknesses for the 2007-2008 F800 bikes: blown fork seal, and engine stalling.

The seal fix was simple and handled under warranty. The stalling issue might be more challenging, but so far a new ECU flash has prevented problems.
