R1150GS front rim thoughts

Post by Billy900t »

I had an R1150R which I loved until a car hit it and me. now I have a 2004 R1150GS which I like and has some benefits over the R but more concerns. Has anyone on here ever tried a smaller rim on the front of a GS? i use it mostly on the road and am thinking about keeping on/off tires on the stock size rims and getting a different set of rims with street tires. I would like a little quicker turn in from the smaller front wheel. Hoping for some insight.

Many people have considered that swap. You can adapt the cast wheels taken off the R1150R/RT/RS or R1100S. Some modifications are required but I can't tell you which.

I fitted 1150RT alloys to my R1100GS a couple of years ago and it does turn in much better. I would never go back to the 19" front. 1100GS and 1150GS wheels are interchangeable so the mod should be the same for your bike. You will need one of the speedo drives shown here http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/ ... 5_30_RA_65
Just put your existing discs onto the alloys and away you go.
