Throttle cable '98 R1100R

Post by Rintlis »

Cable broke yesterday morning in traffic :( Had SO much fun getting back home! How do one replace this cable? I have stripped the bike so I can get to the cable where it runs under the tank, but it's stuck? I have unhooked the cable from the throttle handle, from the pulley where it hooks into, but no dice. It seems to go into a rubber mould, but I just don't seem to be able to get it out, and I'm realy not in the mood to strip this bike down to the ground. I have replaced the clutch cable, and that's easy, but this one's got me stuck. Please help!

Your bike probably has the throttle cable distributor (magic black box where the cable from throttle goes in and 2 cables going to right and left intake go out).

Changing the throttle cable is one hell of a job and I suggest you get yourself the maintenance manual from http://www.carlsalter.com/motorcycle-manuals.asp

Here you also find a little graphics http://forums.pelicanparts.com/bmw-r110 ... ement.html

Another good article is here http://www.ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads/R1 ... bles.shtml

Well it is a bit of a fuzz to change the throttle cable. But is is like that with almost everything on your oilhead. This bike was not made for whimps. Probably the best description can be found at www.ibmwr.org (go to technical articles->oilheads and then you can find the link in the upper left part "how to replace throttle cables ...").

If you are not familiar with that stuff stay away from it and let somebody else deal with this.

Best regards
Oliver
