I guess you really can make a R1200R into anything you want.

Meat Cove. Hey Mogu. I must have missed you. Was there this fall. Here's the view from the top. My tent is the lower left one. I went up high to photo the sun rise, but heavy cloud cover foiled my plans. It started raining as I pulled out of the campground and onto the dirt road out.

Image

ps: I had promised a trip report. Posted it on the YB forum, but not here. You can't see the pics if you don't register on the YB forum, so if people want, I could post up the 10 or so chapter report with many photos. Sound off if I should do that. I don't look at any other section of this site, so am not familiar with the ride report section at all. I'd want to post it as a thread here in the 1200R section.

Sunrise -- Labor Day this year

Does that road run all the way to the top. I've seen people up there and always wondered. Unfortunately every time I've been there it's been raining and the PR3's aren't the best tire on that slippery mud so I hesitated going any further than the campground.

Bob,
Read your posts on the YB board. What time of year were you up there? I've spent some time in NS but never got to Newfoundland. Recently my interest in the island has been tweeked and I'll likely do it the end ofAugust next year.

Harry, The dirt road does continue past the campground, but I didn't use it and don't know where it actually goes. To get to that top bluff there is a trail thats about a half hour hike. I went up in the dark wanting to photograph the sunrise, but heavy clouds killed that idea. The pic I posted was at about 6am plus or minus.

My trip was late August into the second week of September. The plan was to do Labrador before the real cold set in and after the bugs were chilled out of commission. But the wet weather told me to skip the TransLab this time out.

Were you able to see the pictures on the YB site?

I'm registered on the YB site so I could see the great pictures. It's a shame about the frequent rain in the Maritimes but I guess that's why everything is so green. I usually go up for the Salty Fog rally on Labor day and stay. Last year we were driven off the Cabot trail and canceled Meat Cove because of two hurricanes that hit one after the other. Great test for the rain gear.
Worst bugs (mosquitoes) I ever ran into were on PEI, I now carry a head net.

Bob, check out the Salty Fog Rally I think you would enjoy it.

It's amazing the things people do with their R1200R. Like it or not you have to appreciate the workmanship.
I like it.

having some fun with my R... I should have taken pictures when the bike did not fall..

after picking up my bike and getting it out of the hole it got stuck in (well it was probably me who got it stuck.. am sure a more experienced off road rider would have not had gotten stuck right there) a DNR officer showed up and informed me that this is private property belonging to a friend of his (thanks for not marking your private property... whoever you are!) and that he could arrest me right now and put me into jail... he said that about three times and then let me go... well at least he didn't shoot me, I guess...

now I'm just wish I wouldn't have to work, else I could play around in the 3 inches of snow we just got... can't wait to get new tires and see how they do offroad
coldest evening leaving work so far:
