The only thing the computer might know is if the electronic valve that turns engine vacuum on to the canister was removed. Mine isn't. Still there, neatly plugged into the harness. And connections to it plugged off.

OK that part :
BMW Part Number 83 30 0 402 344
Which is tool number 0-610-619

Is definitely the correct plug. And to prove it:

It's going to set you back $20+, but I figured I have $80 into the horn and wiring kit ( which should make for a very neat install) so why not go for a $100 horn.

EXCELLENT Harry! Simply excellent. Getting the same thing from Nippy costs about $60 (including shipping..) so this is a real bargain. Thanks much for tracking this down!

Stopped by my dealer today to check out a Centech fuse box and a stebel horn...yesterday when I phoned, one of the parts guys I was informed that they had never heard of a Centech fuse box, and a Stebel Horn was $99... :?: ..so much for not asking for one of the two BMW owning parts guys.

When I arrived I waited for one of the BMW guys who immeditaely fished out a Centech Box from under the counter and started laughing about a $99 Stebel Horn....Then it happened. [-X . "you also need" the Centech AP1 Relay or your accessories will stay on all the time, and the mechanics are going to hate you with all the fault codes which will pop up next time you bring your bike in. ](*,)

bottom line.
Tomorrow I will pick up the Horn, stop by Autozone and get an xtra relay, wire, inline fuse, and go from there...I guess the mechanics are going to have to spend a few minutes clearing the fault....(it's still going to be easier than when I killed the BMW Battery and replaced with an extra from my Aprilia Falco :D ) I'll pickup the AP1 minus the Relay after I retrieve my Passport Radar Dectector form the local Sheriff's Evidence lock-up (or purchase a new one).

If a fault code is coming on because of the Centech fuse box my BMW tech. never mentioned it to me. Mine stays on all of the time because that's the way I want it. I've had no problems due to the fuse box in two years.

Am I a "fault code" myself on this forum ?

or I just still don't get for what precise purpose is intended the connector and cable that Mogu83 posted on this thread recently ?

Maybe both....but I still wonder for what is this stuff ?

Frede, The plug shown is a plug like the one used on your stock BMW horn so that you can use a louder horn as replacement with out having to splice or cut the wiring harness on your R1200R. The two yellow wires shown go to the new "big boy" horn or to the relay and then off to two horns. The black plug the green one is plugged into carries the 12 volts to the horn when you push the horn button.

it looks like this piece costs £15.00 ($21.45 or so) from Nippy Normans. I don't remember the shipping costs one way or the other. I DO remember that they didn't have them in stock and it ended up taking about 2 months for the parts to arrive. Communication with them was infrequent and I was not happy. They were not bad but they were not good. If I could find a good US supplier I would choose them.

The horn install is finished, with a twist. I used the canister bracket and with a few secret four letter words and a little bending it worked fine.
Click on the picture, might take a while to load.
I never tried this before - I hope it works.

What do you think??

Bravo Mogu !

I really like the auxiliary light blinking with the horn... now what will be great is to show PEDAGOGICALLY to all electrical installation NOVICES of this forum how you connected everything to make it that way ? With a nice drawing full of good intention and great childish colors...I mean in addition to showing the end product and the great connector you got from Chicago.

And also what are the precautions to take in selecting the equipment needed and during installation ?

I hope this is not sounding to much of a neo neo 60's Communistico-Socialist request ?

Cheers and Thanks again for the show !

I hesitate to go into how that's done because I wouldn't want to encourage anyone that isn't familiar with electronics and wiring to attack their $17,000+ motorcycle with wire cutters and a soldering iron. Also no mechanic (in their right mind) or shop would do these modifications to a customers machine because in the unlikely event there was a problem they would be held libel.
I'm sure some on this list (Don I'm sure), would know where to connect the $1.50 diode between the horn and aux light relays to accomplish this, they just didn't think of it. I had the diode in my tool box and as I was wiring the horn it hit me like a lighting bolt (I didn't have my tin foil helmet on), so I figured why not do it. I'm sure their are some legal issues with having the lights blink (although I've seen it in Europe) . My only concern is that the blinking lights may be mis-understood as an OK to go signal.

Tit for tat - I referred them to this thread for the "repair connector" - so only fair that Frede should get his childish COLORFUL wiring diagram drawing of good intentions from their thread:

Ferde - as an alternative to the fuse going to the battery - this wire could be directed to a fuse position in your Centec fuse box. Would work the same way. Be tidier that way. Hope that satisfied the neo 60's Communistico-Socialist requests.. :)
