Black engines

Post by riceburner »

Does anyone know which bikes in the r1150 series had the black engine paint?

I'm specifically looking for a 365mm Paralever arm in Black.
Standard Paralever arm on the Rockster/R1150R is black 385mm, but I like the shorter Paralever arm because it increases ground clearances and speeds up the steering slightly. (by pulling the final drive u-joint straight and thus pulling the rear wheel down by about an inch or so).

I can get a silver one anywhere - but I'd rather have black if I can find it: so trying to figure out which bikes came with one originally. (and so trying to go through realOEM to get a part number)

In my experience, Rocksters...

365mm Paralever links are typically GS or Boxer Cup items but perhaps some of the Rocksters had them, consider asking on the Rockster forum on this site, otherwise, get your black paint out....

The Rockster never had the short Paralever arm.
I know the GS, GSA, and R11S Boxercup had them, but don't know if those bikes ever came with the black engine option.

Me and paint have a hate - hate relationship ;)

The crankcase and gearbox are black on my 2002 R1150R, everything else is silver, including barrels and heads. As are the rear transmission and paralever arm.

It may come to that. But, as said above, that's a last resort!

I'm the same regarding paint. But had measure of success painting a 365mm GS strut flat black for my Rockster1. Hand-sanded the silver surface a bit to clean and provide some "grip". Enjoyed beer. Sprayed on thin uniform coat of rattle can primer. Enjoyed another beer. Sprayed 3 light coats of flat black rattle can paint (Krylon Satin Black indoor/outdoor/metal/wood/etc). Celebrated with beer. Good match for OE Rockster black, paint still looks good 7 years later.

I've got a can of hi-temp exhaust matt - should do. ;)

I believe the R1150R only ever came with the 385mm Paralever arm (same as the Rockster). I'm hoping that there's a black 365mm Paralever arm somewhere in the inventory!

My '04 has the black engine etc. Ferro blue. My black has faded a bit. Near 100K and seldom parked inside.

Agreed re: 385mm for all R1150R Roadster and Rockster.

And the reason I painted the 365mm GS strut for Rockster1 was as you have already noted: only R1100S and R1150GS had the part... in silver.

For Rockster2 I bought adjustable "Ram strut" http://www.bskspeedworks.co.uk/ram-strutt.html. It's inevitably silver but beautifully made.

Nice!

I did have a custom ally arm which was made up for a friend, who gave it to me after he sold his R1100GS, but I gave it away to a 1150GSA owner who now can't find it!

I'll very likely just get a GS or Boxercup arm from Motorworks and then paint it.
