Front Caliper Swap Question

Post by RadicalR1150R »

2004 R1150R iABS ..I get a wig wag, (back & forth) both red brake indicator lights on dash after swapping a caliper that I split & cleaned, Cleaned & did not replace seals & o rings. This is front left..Are these lights indicating "Air In Line"?
Brake line was disconnected at banjo bolt & fluid ran out during swap till it stopped..(emptied line correct)?
I have been trying to bleed at the caliper(left) speed bleeder. Do I have to bleed the right side also?
I've not noticed fluid going down in master cylinder & haven't added any..
I've noticed a solid line of fluid once at the bleeder..
Do I need to add fluid at the iABS module? & run it like when doing the iABS fluid change?
Am I not being patient enough.
A short ride down the street & brakes work but iABS sounds different..& the lights..
Please No "Remove iABS" comments just yet..
Thanks for your help..

You have to bleed both calipers, starting with the longest one first .

Another expert needs to chime in but I'm not so sure that you shouldn't bleed from the pump as well. I long ago pulled my system from my '04 but I remember using the clear fill funnel on the pump and keeping it filled as I bled the system. I'm not certain the front master cylinder fluid supply even gets to the caliper. I think I remember BMW referring to the two systems as "wheel circuit" and "control circuit".

Tower.. I'm thinking along those lines too..The line from the reservoir goes back towards the module & not directly to the calipers.
I think I'll PM the guru.
Thanks.
