Back in the saddle

Post by Photoguy »

Hi guys-
I was here years ago with a 2002 r1150r which eventually succumbed to the 'gee, maybe I'll sell and see what else is out there' bug. Well, it did sell quickly and left me bike-less for a little while. In the interim I picked up a 1976 Honda CB360 which I spent a few years riding and fixing until the bike met the same fate as the BMW. Well, as of yesterday, there's another 1150r in the garage- a new to me Black 2003 with 25K on the odometer and in need of very little as best I can tell. Anyway, just saying hello and happy to be back.- Gary

For the past 2 years I've posted my bike for sale mostly to please my wife. I'm SOOOO relieved when it does not sell and get another season of riding and tooling
Love my bike!

Thanks for the welcomes Gents! Was able to get plates yesterday after a 3 hour wait at the DMV, so this weekend will be the first ride other than up and down my little street. Have done some cleaning and degreasing and getting it all shiny again (especially the undersides). One thing I noticed was a slight oily residue around the sight glass. I suspect that I'll be switching that out at some point, but for now I'm just looking forward to a simple ride without any particular destination.

I also should mention that the previous owner had done a few additions- bar risers, a gel seat and most notably a new MIVV Titanium pipe which gives a slightly different sound than I was accustomed to. Not really louder just different.

Thx! I'll have to dig around a bit to see about posting pics procedure. Since the whole Photobucket debacle I haven't discovered any other hosting sites, but it's on the list of 'to do'.

Similar story here, Photoguy. Bought an '02 R1150R in 2002, new, and put 68K on it before the dreaded output spline failure hit in 2008. Sold it in disgust, got a ZRX1200R (whew, no regrets there!), but that bike encouraged me to do bad things, fast, so I sold it for an R80 mono Airhead, which I still have and love. However, when an '02 R1150R showed up locally, for $2200, I had to go look. With 30K on the clock and looking as if it was garaged kept its entire life, I pulled the trigger. Came with city bags, windshield, foot pegs lowered, BMW battery charger, BMW cover. I believe I was the first person to open the tool bag. Seriously. Almost took a picture of it. Anyway, I am back, as well. One ride is all it took. I love these bikes. It's the Airhead for the 21st Century. Ride on, all.

Agreed, all around. Undervalued and under appreciated. *Except by those who know. I am loving this bike. When I found out that the City Cases the bike came with retail for $388 EACH (!), I knew I got a great deal. The bike is bone stock. I gave it a "canister-ectomy" yesterday (removed charcoal filter). It has GS footpeg brackets installed, which opens up the seating position nicely. Hand guards, heated grips...I am going to ride the heck out of this bike.
