Need a 2006 R1150/R850 service manual

Post by DanH »

Looked everywhere to try and download one. Tried to get the 2005 version off of the Carl Salter site, it downloads as a .rar file, I unzipped it OK but then couldn't get it to execute an Adobe pdf, get "file not found."

Appreciate any suggestions here. Not comfortable owning the bike without a good manual telling me what it needs and how to take care of the small stuff. I'm in Mexico and need to be able to do this although for bigger problems I can take it to Guadalajara.

Thanks. This is a great board, I'm really looking forward to reading and sharing.

I like second hand books.com and just got mine (Clymer) in almost new condition for $29 with a few bucks for shipping. Not sure what they would charge to ship to Mexico.

While I was there, I ordered Jupiter's Travels and Long Way Down for more moto reading and dreaming!

I went for 5 years without a service manual, doing all my own maintenance based on advice found here and elsewhere on the web. Lots of routine and not so routine service done. For some strange reason, like you, I felt I needed an authority figure to help me. A few weeks ago I purchased a Clymer Service Manual from Beemerboneyard.

My initial impressions: Don't bother. If you can even find what you want (because the index and TOC are too sketchy), it won't make any sense. The manual will have you measuring things in nanometers, but you won't know where to put the ends of the calipers. It will have you measuring torques in nM that you can't get a torque wrench even near too. Maybe an online version with a descent search engine will be good, IDK. I found my self looking stuff up on the web, and finding it much more efficiently, than in the manual.

Factory service manual on CD-rom pops up on eBay occasionally, <$20 shipped. Get model-specific version for your bike, 2004-on.

FWIW Nm stands for Newton /Metres.

1 Nm = 0.737562175569 ft-lb.

There are a few conversion charts for download on Google.
