Re: Forgive me brothers, . . .

Amazon has Spectro but it sure looks expensive.

Mobil 1 (MC) and Amsoil are cheaper.

Re: New PIAA LED lights - and mounting

I checked out the lights on Amazon and the price looked right, that and Don's recommendation resulted in the Piaa package being delivered to my front door. This is in reference to mounting the lights on a Parabellum Scout fairing: First the lights are a lot heavier and bigger that the small Piaa lig...

Re: New PIAA LED lights - and mounting

I have a set of earlier Piaa lights mounted in that spot. With over 100,000 the bike has been over some pretty nasty roads, including miles of washboard dirt with no noticeable damage to the lights mounting area or the fairing in general. I guess that's a testimony mostly to the durability of the Pa...

Re: Final Drive Oil - Change Frequency

Just for curiosity what kind of oil are you using. We both understand that answering this you will be opening yourself to multiple suggestions from 'experts' that you are destroying your machine by not using the brand that they use. Reason I ask is I've been using the Beemer magic stuff, but I'm thi...

Re: Need help with Electrical Problem

I'm sure someone with a better memory than mine will pipe up, but this sounds similar to the problem the early R1200Rs had when the antenna ring (security system) went bad. Do a search on antenna ring and see if the symptoms fit your problem. The early bikes had a recall to replace all the rings but...

Re: I am an old new guy

Fuel strip is a device inside the fuel tank that tells the fuel gauge how much fuel is in the tank. Basically that's all you have to know, unless your fuel gauge doesn't work.

Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

I can't make a call if it's good or bad sitting here. That said, I would imagine the dealer/service manager could have been using the free flange replacement as bait in a fishing expedition. My guy wanted me to leave my bike for service and to have gaskets replaced. I asked him if he knew the differ...

Re: Final Drive Play (Sorry guys)

Thing with the R1200R is that the rear drive seems to be the only issue. Many people have over 100K on the drive with no problems (like me) but every time I have a drip of oil on the rim or hear a strange noise I hit the panic button. The design does have a lot of slop in it but every one I've seen ...

Re: I'm the New guy

Much thanks to Caol for helping me out with a seat! Spent some time under the hood last night and manged to zap the fuel strip back to life with the old bbq lighter trick. ;) Check the old posts. The fuel strip in now warranted for 12 years. I understand you just ride in and they put in a new one. ...

Welcome aboard. I'm sure you'll enjoy your "R". I don't put form over function on my traveling bike, but that seat. It's likely comfy when your sitting on it, and the best news is when your on it you can't see it. Gave my stock seat away to a forum member that was trading in a bike ...

Re: Riding Motorcycles When You Have Young Kids At Home....

I think it comes down to how much enjoyment it gives you or how committed you are to riding, versus risk. When you get out of bed in the morning you start accepting risks and making decisions about taking them. Backing out of the driveway, crossing the street, getting on an elevator or eating a fish...

Re: Tube tire deciphering

I use 3.00 X 17 on the rear of my little MotoGiro bikes and I've bought tubes in the local dirt bike place.
Thing is, a three inch tube seems quite a bit smaller than a 130mm tube. I'm pretty sure the 3.00 X 17 is reffering to the rim size not the tube. Just sayin

Re: Tank bag,;what are my options

I've been using the BMW tank bag for a few years (about 100,000 miles) and like it. I bought it new for a greatly reduced price but if I had paid the full price I wouldn't be happy at all. The mounting system is first class as the overall construction. All the zippers still work fine and the stitchi...

Re: 2014 R1200R Dark White

Early on (2007) their were problems with the batteries in the new bikes, but I think it was handled as a dealer courtesy type deal instead of a general recall.

Rear Drive Fluid

I searched but couldn't find this.
Has anyone used other than the BMW provided oil in their rear drive and what are the thoughts on using other oils. I've been using the Beemer stuff for 100,000+ but I'm thinking of going to Red Line. I use Red Line in all my other bikes with good results.

Re: Pinion Seal Rear Drive

Good info, I was kind of going in that direction. I'm at the few drops after 500/600 mile stage. I think I'll just clean it up and watch it. That tool is $142 to change an $18 seal.
