Re: Bikes with BREMBO front calipers
Hi there, the distance between the 2 mount points (M8) is 65 mm and the R1150 models shared a 320 mm front disc. Like many other models from the R1200 series for example the R1200R/ST etc. Hence you could try to get hold of brake calipers for the R1200ST (like for example these on egay Germany which...

Re: Help with a valve/head area chattering noise
Hi Steve,
I would check: a) valve play, b) cam chain tensioner, c) right side throttle body (see http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=320559)

Re: Cleaning and polishing the exhaust pipes.
Looks nice but having done this myself I can say that this requires a lot of time and work (you will need to manually polish foreever!). And the effect lasts only for a few 1000 kms and the blue will come back thereafter. Hence I personally would not bother. And when removing the exhaust there are n...

Re: Project Heretic
Greetings from Germany, nice project indeed! However I have my doubts with regards to the durability of the engine with a supercharger ... First of all the oilhead engines are heat critical especially in summer (install a digital oil temp gauge and you will be surprised!). Secondly the torque/hp out...

Re: Can the BMW shop computer modify fuel/air ratio?
As mentioned a complete remap can be done by using this Rexxer equipment. My R12S has received that treatment and the result was a much smoother engine and gain of 3 HP and 6 NM.

Re: Can the BMW shop computer modify fuel/air ratio?
With the BMW shop computer the fuel mix/mapping cannot be altered! That can only be done using 3d party equipment (like power commander or other devices). The ECU itself can be reprogrammed only using a 3d party device/software called Rexxer. Contact: http://www.rexxer.eu/e_kontakt.cfm However to do...

Re: Oil Color - is it supposed to be this dark?
NO! After just 200 miles the oil is not supposed to look like this! If I was you I'd drain whatever stuff the previous owner had filled in and replace it by some decent 15-50 or 20-50 stuff.
And yes, the oil filter is not covered.

Battery, connections to battery and starter would be my best bet. It could also be the starter itself. Happens from time to time that some magnets get loose inside the starter ... since they are only glued in place ...

Re: Bent alloy wheel rim repair
New wheels are prohibitively priced hence that is not your option of choice. Instead look for a used one at egay or beemerboneyard or any of the other salvage specialists. And yes forged wheels can be repaired under certain circumstances. It just requires some company who know what they are doing. I...

Re: bmw r850r exhaust pipes in the front getting smoking hot
Hi, yes of course. But I really don't understand your initial post then because if your engine has got only one cylinder running then the engine would be running rather rough. Obviously there is something in disorder and you should either find the cause yourself (check spark and fuel supply) or if y...

Re: joined the oil head club!
Morning David, I would also assume you have paid slightly too much for that bike. In any case it should have a full service record which shows when the fluids were last changed. If you want to do things by your own I suggest you get yourself the repair manual (either the BMW stuff or aftermarket). S...

Hi there,
suggest get yourself the repair manual. In google or bing or any other search engine search for "Carl Salter manuals". Once you found the site you can download the manual for the R1100R. You'll find the info needed in there.

Re: bmw r850r exhaust pipes in the front getting smoking hot
Hi there,
it is in the nature of mufflers to get hot! However when you let the engine run whilst the bike is standing still for some time the mufflers get really hot! If the engine is not running rough I'd take a ride around the block and see if the problem has gone or not.

Hello Radek, there are already many aftermarket exhausts available but if you want to build one for your own pleasure and without any commercial interest please go ahead. Tuning-chips, powercommander and alike have one thing in common. They enrich the mix (and in the case of chips lift the rev limit...

Hi Johan,
why don't you check the ignition of the cylinder in question by removing the spark plug, put it in the plug and then onto the cylinder so the spark plug has ground. Ignition on and turn the engine. You can then see if there is a spark or not ...

Re: R850R sometimes running on 1 leg
Johan, the paralever arm of the GS is shorter (if I remember well by 15 mm). I had mounted the same on my R1100R and it lead to slight elevation of the rear and a slightly more agile riding.
I can only recommend changing the paralever arm.
