Re: Slight hesitation from tickover as you open throttle

Coils usually work or they don't.
It sounded more like a fuel delivery issue to me, that's why to clean the injector system, cheapest try also.

Re: Slight hesitation from tickover as you open throttle

I'd run a couple of tanks with Techron additive and see if there is any improvement. Plugs and Valve adjustment could need attention but try the Techron first.

Re: Starter motor whine

It's been about one year, 6,000 miles ago. Has been working without any whine, even in 105 temps. The bike had been out in the weather for fourteen years so everything in the way off lubricant had been washed out. We restored everything, mostly lubricating moving external and internals that we felt ...

That is the same look as the one we had to lube.

Re: Starter motor whine

I think the starter motor is needing some lubrication. One of our's after being stored outside for a long period did the same thing.

Re: Updating on the alt belt replacement

There are two BMW belt sizes, depends on the year or vin #. Our 2004 was suppose to take the later belt, smaller one. We found the same number on the original belt, but it wouldn't fit. Ended up using the other BMW belt no problem.

Re: Good Time to Ride

Out here in Ca. it's gone stupid. Went out today to the grocery store for fresh Veggies. They were out of all paper goods and to my surprise Canned Cat food. I've heard old people eat cat food before but really, my cat will have to have dry only I guess. Glad I live in the outback of the Sierra Neva...

Re: Good Time to Ride

I've been going riding up the mountain passes (Sierra's) here the last few days before a winter storm moves in today. My stops at out-houses had no toilet paper, odd because they usually do. Didn't think to much of it until last night after going shopping at Sam's for our normal stuff. We didn't hoa...

Re: Hand Grip Glue?

Bought some hair-spray an retried. Didn't work again. So tried a very thin layer of silicone caulk and a wire tie. Seems to be working on my test ride of 100 miles yesterday. Probably will try to remove the wire tie next time I go riding this bike.

Hand Grip Glue?

I replaced the hand grips and used hair spray to hold them onto the throttle Heated grip plastic inner part. It doesn't seem to be bonding as the grip seems to keep working down towards the end weight causing friction and keeping the throttle open, ie: not returning to idle. So I've pulled the grip ...

Re: Ohlins

Suggested rebuild by Ohlin USA is at 25,000 to 30,000 miles. I actually bought a used front this last go around and sent it off for rebuild. Found a new rear for this last R bike, 02 R abs. The rebuild went to Ohlin USA with my specs and returned within a couple weeks, most of that time was the ship...

Re: Ohlins

Yep; Having all the 1150R's and the 1100S with upgraded shocks have really made for great handling. We have assorted tire types on the bikes. Have found most of them very very good but the Metzeler MR7 RR feel the best but only go about 4,500 miles. Haven't tried the Continental Sport Attack 3 yet, ...

Ohlins

Final got the Ohlin Shocks on the 2002 ABS bike yesterday. Took it out for a ride to fine tune them and feel out the bike. Worked the Damper knobs up and down a few clicks and found what the factory recommended to be the best settings. Front at 14 clicks, the rear at 16 clicks. This thing tracks now...

Re: Clutch / gearbox failure?

If at the shop you should just quit speculating. Seems your coming up with the worst case scenario. Things could be a lot simpler than you expect however for a shop doing this repair you'll have a lot of as long as apart this far you should think about replacing this and that's. Sometimes driveshaft...
