Re: Anyone tried the new Tourance Next?

Ya know, the Scorpion Trails are billed as a 95/5 tire, just like the second generation Tourance. They are really a sport bike tire with a great cornering reputation. The first generation Tourance was billed as a 80/20 tire and the latest Tourance Next is billed as a 90/10. Sounds pretty scientific...

Re: Anyone tried the new Tourance Next?

Just judging from appearance the new ones look much less capable off pavement. Many fewer edges to work with. Agreed. +1 on the Scorpion Trails. Dr. Strangelove, which version did you buy? I'm running the K spec with the dual compound and thicker sidewall, and at 2k miles haven't seen a whole lot o...

Re: Help me spend my money (on a r1200r)

Does anyone have any experience haggling with a dealership? I'd like to know what a reasonable counter offer would be. I've purchased all of my bikes new, and in every case was able to get a very good price - either through straight up discount to MSRP, inflated trade in value, or a great deal on a...

Re: R1200R - would it be a wise choice?

I wonder if all the folks that commented on how much better the cam head is vs. the hexhead have actually owned both... I know on paper there is a slight bump in hp, but not much in torque, which to me is far more usable in real world situations anyways. Marginally improved difference sounds like a...

This may sound like a dumb question, but have you tried the ignition key? I know they're different, but I have a friend whose key is close enough to mine to open my saddlebags... Nice work BMW.

Re: Oily/greasy residue on right swing arm..see photo

I can see brake fluid splatter making it's way to those spots out of the rear reservoir or line, but it doesn't sound like brake fluid and if it is, that stuff is pretty corrosive (on paint) and could do some damage. Final drive seal failure causing some misting maybe?

Re: R1200R - would it be a wise choice?

But on topic... I've put thousands of miles on F800 twins, G650 singles, and have had both the Hexhead and Camhead versions of the R1200R. I never found there to be a lack of power on any of them. My 650 would carve up twisties just fine with sport bikes and I spent lots of time touring with it at h...

Re: R1200R - would it be a wise choice?

I'm not sure where you get your info from? Besides BMW riders, nobody puts on more touring miles than Harley riders. My guess is you've never owned one. They do attract more than their fair share of annoying pirate poser wannabes. I've owned three and they never left me stranded. I never fell for t...

... there's too much tension for my liking on the brake line when at or near full lock on the right.

Re: New Bike is waiting for Me !

Congrats on you new purchase! It's quite a bike. I think you'll end up being glad you had the 10 hour ride. I had a similar experience a few years back. It was a great way to say "good bye" to my old bike and "hello" to the new one. :D

I have read motormans engine destroying method. NO I don't agree with it. Nuff said do as you wish with your brand new motor.David R Basic User Posts: 123 Joined: Wed Sep 09, 2009 8:46 pm Private message Anybody wanna discuss the merits of synthetic oil, or share their opinions on blue pipes?

Re: Barbacks on '11+ - GPS mount, line length?

After about 18 months of thinking all you guys with your barbacks were whining about nothing, I'm thinking I might like a bit more bend in my arms. The stock position is great for twisties, but I also commute year-round and the pretty straight arm position is a bit of a bummer for that - mayb...

Re: R1200R Classic and Michelin PR3's with tubes

I don't use PR3s myself, but I don't see why they would be any different than the other tubeless type tires that are being used with tubes on the Classic. If I had to guess, I'd say the only reason it's not on the BMW recommended list, is because it was introduced after the list was published.

Re: Oil filter wrench for 2011.....

I had been using a band type strap wrench, which just barely fit. I just recently upgraded to the A&S Wrench which has the oil filler cap wrench built in (my 2012 did not come with a tool kit ). I'm very pleased with it. Cheaper versions are available. Max BMW sells one, Beemerboneyard does as w...

Re: best tire for bmw r1200r

I just scrubbed in my new set of Scorpion Trails, and thus far like them very much. The tread is more aggressive IRL than it looks on online, and the pattern doesn't repeat itself as frequently as most street tires. I suspect this will make it a very good tire for fire roads. And they don't seem to ...

Jeezus, that's purdy, but that GS conversion takes the cake. For 6k, it's a little steep, but man is it a nice option to have.

Tube Puncture: R1200R Classic

I know there is a lot of concern among Classic owners with tubes about tubes, and I wanted to share my experience from this past weekend. My friend and I split off from the group we'd been riding with to Iron Butt it from Ft. Collins to Milwaukee on Saturday. Somewhere in Iowa, I started getting a w...

No, I had system cases as well, but those were left at my sister's house in Fort Collins for the day. But, to be honest, I can barely fill them. After a couple of years of minimalist touring on a 650 single, I'm pretty much happy with a tank/tail bag combo.
