Any tips for riding the SF area in June? The gf is thinking of renting us an RT while we're mucking about on the west coast. Big birthday coming up (think old Hawaii cop show title); we're driving down from Vancouver BC & then hanging around the Sonoma & the Bay area for a few days. Rental p...

Denali D2 LED aux lights
Ordered today... look forward to getting the install done (I hate doing electrical stuff - pain the butt, fiddly things - give me a stuck fastener & some dirty motor oil any day).

Thanks, I do have a centre stand.
I just find it a bother to work with load on the front end, slight as it is.

Re: jack location to lift front end
Do you sit a piece of wood under the front forks or under the engine? Is there a wheel you remove first for better balance of the bike? She can't sit on the centre stand alone, I wouldn't think...

Re: Better not happen in the UK
I don't get the GPS part - you mean all GPS units are to be banned because some have radar detectors built-in, or are they targeting GPS as a distraction. I like the mandatory training part - that to me would deal with much of the foolishness we see. But it's not everything - just yesterday as I was...

jack location to lift front end
Where's the best place to set a jack to lift the front of the bike? Tire change for front & back planned in next short while - waiting for dynabeads to arrive by mail...
Thanks.
Thanks.

Where's the best place to get/order them (Canadian customer) and what should I expect to pay? What material is best for our bike?

Re: Pirsig's Endorsement?
I just read Fulton's "One Man Caravan" last year - incredible book & strange memories it leaves, like of the fish he saw in Burma (I think) that he watched jump itself from a puddle on one side of the road to a neighbouring puddle the other side...

Re: Pirsig's Endorsement?
Please. He examines himself way too much, alienates his kid and has no patience or understanding for his non-mechanically inclined friend. I found him tedious and pretentious with all the quasi-mystical stuff. There's way better writing out there - Ted Simon ("Jupiter's Travels") for start...

I thought Pirsig's book was self-centered, self-indulgent rubbish, but that's just me.

Re: Final drive oil change
So this past week, I learned how a little o-ring on the 2007 R1200R could lead to disaster. Did the oil change described above & then noted an oil leak after a mild drive to work. Turns out I got the washer & the o-ring for the speed sensor/plug for the oil fill opening reversed, munching th...

Re: A photo I thought you might appreciate
Isn't it painful to shift in bare toes (or even just to think about your pregnant spouse falling off and getting sandpapered or worse)? Or is this just sucker bait for a guy like me who won't even test ride around the block after changing the oil without gearing up? I assume the bike was in motion h...

Re: Final drive oil change
Thank you, gang. I did the engine oil and final drive oil today. The link supplied above was brilliant. Of all the info, the item I would stress is what a pain in the ass it is to fill the 2007 model. Get that beauty supply squirter or load up on swear words - I used my quota today. All done now. He...

Re: Final drive oil change
Thanks for the info. My bike's an 07.
I got the oil filter puller on loan from BMW today. "Don't worry about returning it in a hurry," the sales guy that hosed me says. "Don't you worry about me being worried," I think to myself.

Final drive oil change
Can someone save me the searching and crawling through a zillion posts & let me know if there is a place on the board where I can find the steps to change the final drive lube? Also for a general oil change. Long story short, I took the bike to BWM Toronto for winter service and NOTHING GOT DONE...
