Re: Relay cross reference list

Hi Bob, I don't know the answer to your question about relay equivalents. But the stock part isn't awfully expensive, and could (I'm guessing here) be easily mailed to CR. I think my '07 R is much the same electrically as an '07 GS. The only relay on the bike (other than the extra-circuit one I adde...

Re: Gear Ratios Changed?

Did they really change those gears, or did they simply correct the documentation? I don't know. One might compare the p/n for the transmission gears in the parts fiches for the '07 with the p/n for the '10. BMW parts fiches can be found at realoem.com and many dealer websites. You'd have to look at...

Re: Is anyone ever here?

That's a good point, Don. I agree that as a group R riders are surprisingly satisfied. Last winter, Mary thought she'd have us do something memorable for my 70th birthday, and so as a surprise set us up for a Viking Experience Edelweiss tour in Norway https://www.edelweissbike.com/en/touren/?c=cve ,...

Re: Is anyone ever here?

Hi Don, My experience (with the forum) exactly replicated. I used to spend a lot of time here, but lately no one's home. I wander over to http://www.r1200rforum.com/ sometimes; they're more heavily UK/NZ/AUS, but a nice group too. But as you say: the bike's set up as I like it and there's little to ...

Re: R1200R Fusebox Recommendation

Here's another vote for Eastern Beaver. Jim provides very good quality components, and I was able to get just what I needed for a single-circuit wiring job (heated vest only) for a very reasonable price and in a very reasonable time.

That's handsome, Harry, and easy for those of us with Parabellum Scouts. If I add similar lights - I think of it from time to time - I'll do it this way.

Re: Need help with Electrical Problem

Glad you found the problem, Jed. 1) There are several different types of battery chemistry, and each likes a sightly different charging/maintaining profile. Thus, the kind of tender you should use depends on the kind of battery you installed. 2) Some do, and some plug it in from time to time dependi...

Re: Need help with Electrical Problem

I would R&R the battery cables, both the big ones (starter, ground) and smaller one(s). Inspect the cables to make sure they're intact and have not begun to corrode internally - corrosion isn't certain, but when it appears it's almost always right at the end where the cable is clamped into its r...

Re: I am an old new guy

And no one's addressed the underlying issue: whether an R12 an appropriate upgrade from an Oilhead. The answer is "yes." I rode an R1100RSL for twelve years, and loved it...but the Hexhead R12 is a much finer piece of machinery.

I haven't heard of that headlight replacement.

Um...the R1150R's last year was 2005, I think, and the R1200R's first year was 2007. Are you posting on the right board?

Re: Leaving the World of R

Best wishes, Ken. Ride on!

Sometimes these things turn out differently than we'd imagined. Back in 1988, I decided to leave BMW and try something else. I bought a near-new Yamaha FJ1200: it was smooth and fast and comfortable. I just hated it and sold it 13 days later.

Re: R12 Vacuum testing

I think Gary is on to something...especially since you report no vacuum leak symptoms.

Were it my bike, I'd remove (or at least disconnect) the AF-xied, and test again. Perhaps it is affecting the fueling system in some manner not anticipated by the GS911.

Re: I'd Like to Sit on a BMW Comfort Seat

Dave: Did the seat dig into your legs where it rolled over the edge? The low comfort seat did for me. I was amazed how much better my reworked seat felt over that seat. I have an Alaska Leather sheep skin pad on my seat and it is wonderful. I am glad that you tried one before you bought one and wer...

The comfort seat looks good visually, but I haven’t actually sat on one. I’m hoping someone will pop out of the woodwork and offer me the opportunity to try theirs.
Someone did, and I had a look-see and sit this morning. The Rich's seat I have is superior, and I'll keep using it.

Re: I'd Like to Sit on a BMW Comfort Seat

Roger, Thanks for your detailed comments. A fellow on the other R12R board has a high comfort seat to sell, and I’m musing about buying it. My bike now wears a custom seat from Rich’s in Kingston WA; I rode there in 2011 to have the seat made. I saw how Rich did the work, using the original seat pan...

I'd Like to Sit on a BMW Comfort Seat

I'm musing about a BMW comfort seat for my '07 R.

Do any of you in the Bay Area have a Hex- or Camhead R with a comfort seat I could come up and sit on?

Drop me an email: same user name at cruzio dot com

Thanks!
