2011 R1200R For Sale see Buy/Sell/Trade Board

I've posted my bike for sale on the Buy/Sell/Trade section of the site. Just wanted to mention it here in case anyone is looking and wasn't aware of that board.

Re: First Bike Trip on the R12R

I took a 350 mile trip on my bike in July of 2010 with loaded side cases and it definitely would not go 130. It topped out at 125 mph. After I backed off, I realized the problem was that I was in fourth gear and I had hit the rev limiter without realizing it while focused on the road that was rocket...

I recalled that it was a "just pull it out" arrangement but I didn't want to tell you that and have you yanking on it just in case it wasn't.

Re: License Plate Bulb (US Model)

I have not replaced it but I have become acquainted with the rear end of the R12R as a result of installing the Wunderlich rear fender eliminator. That required removing it from the housing. I need to take a look at it and refresh my memory. I'll get back to you on it.

Re: R1200R won't idle on cold startups

I too had difficulties starting my bike this winter on multiple occassions. It's a 2011 R1200R that now has 7,000 miles on it that's completely stock. I did the 6,000 mile service at 5,300 miles in January. The problem arose both before and after the scheduled service. When it got below freezing I c...

Re: R1200R vs F800R

I love the R1200R but I do find the F800R very tempting because I just think it is a better looking bike. I like the asymetrical headlights with the painted windscreen in particular. I just saw the photos of the new paint scheme on the website yesterday and it looks even better in those colors which...

Has the new BMW naked twin caught anyone else's eye?

I'm referring to the Husqvarna Nuda 900 and Nuda 900R due out by year-end. It's essentially a hypermotard version of the F800R but it has a number of great upgrades including ohlins/sachs suspension, radial mounted Brembo monoblocks, a reworked version of the F800's parallel twin that delivers 105 h...

Re: In praise of louder horns!

Thank you all for your feedback. After further reading, I think I found the answer I was looking for. It appears that I should remove the stock horn and the relay goes in its place. The stock positive wire that feeds the OEM horn connects to the relay and the relay is run to ground using the ground ...

Re: In praise of louder horns!

Please indulge me for a moment while I ask a question that reflects my lack of understanding of all things electrical. I assume the new horn is powered by a positive lead from the battery or an auxiliary fuse panel with heavier gauge wire than used for the OEM horn. I further assume that the positiv...

Re: 2011 leaking fork seals anyone?

My 2009 never had that problem. Both of my 2011s did from new. I haven't tried wiping the oil off and seeing if it returns. Such an activity skirts dangerously close to washing a motorcycle and I've never done that. I guess I'll ask the dealer to address the fork seals when the bike goes in for a ne...

Re: Killed a deer with the R

I had a brand new set of OEM bags on my bike when I took up stunt riding and did a wheelie that ended badly. The bike tumbled side over side and really banged up the bags pretty badly. The plunger device that compresses against the bag mount was broken off on both of them and one of the lock cylinde...

Re: Difference between 2011 vs 2010 R12R's and earlier?

I had an 09 and I'm on my second 2011. I don't notice less vibration in the bars. Though the engine does sound smoother. The stock exhaust sounds better also. I do notice that I am caught in the dead zone below the effective portion of the torque curve less frequently with the 2011. My impression is...

Re: Scotland, oh Scotland!

It is a wonderful place and it's amazing how wild it is. I had the pleasure of going there in 1999 to go backpacking. I left Glasgow in a rental car and travelled north past Fort William and Loch Lomond eventually arriving at the little town of Kinlochewe where I set out on my adventure from a pub w...

I had my 09 up to an indicated 125 when it hit the rev limiter...in 4th gear. I've long known that it handles great at 90. It's good to know that 70 is an option as well. I don't want to criticize or name names but I have observed that some of you have bolted an awful lot of stuff on your bikes tha...

Re: Questions for David Robb, vice president of Motorrad des

My question is this: Can a paint truly be smoked, matte and metallic? If I must be a bit less pedantic my questions are the following: Why not offer the following aftermarket design elements? A belly pan/engine fairing, A seat cowling, and An alternative to the very staid front headlight. Of course ...

Re: Performance

The R1200R is capable of a maximum indicated speed of 150 mph. How do I know? That's the last number on the speedometer. I had my 09 up to an indicated 125 when it hit the rev limiter...in 4th gear. It was still accelerating briskly so I assume that in 5th or 6th it would have been good for another ...
