Re: For those who adjust their own valves
You have to set the pistons to TDC when the engine's cold to adjust valves, right? How does one do this without having to open things up?

Re: New R1200R Rider in San Francisco
Lucky bugger. I was just down in SF for my 50th & hired an RT out of http://www.dubbelju.com (they were great there, btw). Had it up north of the city through Marin Co. and out to Pt. Reyes light & environs. A real blast... what a great place for the R, which is my full-time ride here at hom...

Re: Rear Brake Adjustment
Check your rear pads as well - you don't want to adjust a whole bunch if the problem is really that your pads are worn. A few folks on the forum have found the rear pads tending to wear quite a bit quicker than the fronts (mine were gone with 50% of pad still available on the front.

Re: Is the front rubber easier to change than the rear?
Thanks for the responses. I have reasonably good tire irons, but could use an extra (third) rim protector - I did the job on two & could have done with one more. The hand pump worked OK once I remembered to put the core back into the valve stem before pumping away like a madman  I did won...

Is the front rubber easier to change than the rear?
Cuz I just did the rear, and while I got it done, it was not a job I enjoyed. Getting the tire off was lousy and getting the fresh one on only slightly better. I broke the bead in an old wooden vice down in the basement. A bit of sweat, but I'd anticipated that. What I didn't anticipate was the effo...

Trivial issue with signal cancel switch
I've lost the mechanical resistance that gives the "click" feedback when I use the cancel switch. It was just gone this morning, no progressive decline that I recall. Now I'm looking all the time to be sure I've cancelled after signalling. No loose parts that a quick look & feel expose...

Re: Just got new shocks
What does one of those lithium babies cost, anyways? The shocks info is interesting. A BMW motorrad tech once told me the OEM shocks are dead by 10,000 miles & ready to replace. I've heard the same kind of thing from a VW tech. The change is gradual, so you don't really notice it day to day, but...

Re: New to the site
You'll have more fun and get more pep & better fuel efficiency from a 2008 or later F800ST - great bike. And you can dress it for touring or track. I remain convinced the F800 is faster than the R1200R notwithstanding the stats and now having spent a full year on the R1200R (I did three years on...

Re: Denali D2's - installed...
A full day equivalent for me, but I'm pretty slow with stuff like this; I split the work across 2 half days, one for the hardware mounting & one for the wiring. A surprising amount of time goes by as you sit starting at the bike to decide where you want stuff. I haven't had a chance to get out a...

At long last, I took a day to install a set of Denali D2's... http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6090/6056363794_f3e355779f_z.jpg The whole bike with work in progress - lights mounted at this point, no wiring done. Body work & the fuel tank must be removed to allow access to run the wires - not to m...

I don't understand what's not R1200R related about this post & why it was moved. I hate boards where the moderators don't know the difference between moderating and interfering. Why should my posts go to an audience I have no interest in. I don't care about 1150R and I don't like having to post ...

Re: What IS or ARE the solution(s) to increase power engine
The best thing to make your bike go faster is to learn how to ride it. I was at a stop last week when a guy on a 600 whatever roared out from behind me on the green light. I paced him to a highway ramp curve and expected to continue to see the back of him, but then he rolled off throttle and coasted...

Re: Rider down, sad but ironic
To quote a memorable line of Arnold's... "Pafement vuz hiss enemy." I can't say I laughed when I heard this story (in a conversation), but I admit I came close. (It's not bad karma, it's just that the irony is so Woody Allen...) Wear a helmet, save a life. And whether you're riding solo or...
