Re: Proper Engine speed

There is no proper speed. Just run where you feel your engine is happy. Obviously if you open the throttle and the engine starts to buck, you're lugging it. If it pings that's not good either. Cruising along at any RPM is a low load situation in any gear. The way to put the highest load on the trans...

Re: Battery Life

It sounds like you have a few possible issues from the symptoms: --Your starter may need service. There is an internal grease cover that can drop into the armature causing instant flakiness of electrical. Then after some metal arcs away from the cover and then it's alright for a whil --Your HES is b...

Re: popping on deceleration

Removing the the muffler lets fresh air back into exhaust at certain RPMs. That probably caused the problem. Try adding a baffle of some type at the outlet.

Re: Externalizing the fuel filter

I will admit that bit of information got by me. The fuel line I had on hand was what was left over from doing my last R. I will recheck that line spec (R10) and pull the tank if necessary. Thanks! No problem, I learned the hard way. The dealer who I bought my bike from refreshed the hoses before se...

Re: Externalizing the fuel filter

For hose inside the tank your talking $25-30 per foot. It has to be rated for constant immersion in gasoline.

Since you have to check the condition of the intank hoses periodically and for safety, I've left my filter in the tank.

Re: Oilhead Coding Plugs, Decoded

Nice job, Roger! This is the first time that I see some verifiable information regarding the CCP. It would be nice to learn more about what was intended with the different functions and what the different names mean. I will contribute an incomplete interpretation of some of the information that you...

Re: pinging at hi revs

Hey all- probaby a simple Q but after my Beakster is warmed up and I'm just riding, if I jam on the throttle and take it to higher revs, I do hear a bit of "pinging." I always run 93 oct. Is this a need for valve adj.-throttle body or what? As always, thx for everyone's in input, Skylarma...

Re: Oilhead Coding Plugs, Decoded

The Yellow relay in my photo is the starter relay. You should have that too. In the empty white socket you may have a yellow plug, which isn't a relay just jumper wires inside. Autoscaning your bike with a GS-911 can tell you if the yellow plug is best. If, and it's a big if, your Motronic has the s...

Oilhead Coding Plugs, Decoded

UPDATED June 4, 2015 --corrected phasing of 87 & 87a --added data for US 2002 R1150GS single-spark Earlier in this thread I posted up the best info I could find at the time on how BMW designed its Coding Plugs, or CCPs as they get called. Recently, I've come across much more accurate information...

Last fall a guy on the Bmwmoa site had a dragging front brake that caused him a big loss of mileage.

Re: Fuel Filter

Food for thought.

Given the recent failure rate of in-tank hoses, it seems to me that you have to go into the tank just as often to check and replace the hoses as the filter, especially on lower mileage bikes.

Re: Deck Performance fuel controller

I am only familiar with the 4 pot version. I found it pretty easy to use. The single cylinder Yamaha engine needed much more tweaking, and its a closed system. No adjustment. SO you're stuck adding a controller. And monstrous. Your mpg, (as well as other reports) have convinced me something is stil...

Re: Deck Performance fuel controller

The number of adjustments is one of the drawbacks though. Sometimes getting them to feel "right" can take quite a while. 100% true Roger. It can be "fiddly" BUT. to a guy used to being "fiddly" with carb jets, needles and springs....replacing components with circuits. i...

Re: Deck Performance fuel controller

The Dobeck units are clever. By tapping one wire in the motorcycle (one of the fuel injector wires), they allow fuel to be added in three broad areas. What they do is measure the length of the fueling pulse sent by the Motronic to the injector. With it you can choose a fuel to be added for short pul...

Re: Odyssey battery and Battery Tenders

My battery sulfated too and caused quite slow starting. I was using the BT Jr. extensively during a period of short rides. Odyssey walked me through the steps to recondition the battery: --Use a resistor or headlight to discharge the battery to 10 volts (and take the load off right then, don't let t...
