Re: Switching to non-telelever front forks

Seriously, The formula for a well handling motorcycle has been developed over a century of engineering and on street experience and just increasing the tire size or changing the rake by a degree could have a major effect on how some bikes handle. Bikes like the one in the picture look cool but taki...

Re: Switching to non-telelever front forks

I asked for feedback of all sorts including critical so thank you all for that. I suppose I disagree a bit that the only sane route to go is the stock route. By going the stock route the bike will cost roughly $15,000 to repair and it is pristine except for the trailing arm, the front subframe and p...

Switching to non-telelever front forks

So repairing my five week old bike with OEM parts is going to run over $10k for the parts alone. The problem is the OEM front forks which are more than half of that number. BMW can charge what they want for them because there is no alternative in the marketplace. If we were talking about a sportbike...

Re: Out of gas...

Just another fun data point. My '08 with 15k miles on it just got 260 miles on a tank. Put 5.5 gallons in it for the refill. I'm happy. With a replaced fuel strip, the computer seems to be giving pretty accurate info. 260 miles! When you say Bob Ain't Stoppin, you aren't kidding. I assume your tank...

Re: Mirrors

email Chicago BMW for a quote, lets see what happens, because the stock mirrors after this weekend just have to go, i thought i can deal with them for a few a month, but its just horrible when accelerating they are pretty much useless I took mine off my 2011 after about 1,200 to 1,500 miles. There ...

Cursed...

Fell victim to a driver in an SUV making a left turn last night. Battered, bruised, and a little cut up but otherwise OK.

Unfortunately, it was a hit and run so this will be my second claim in two months and two days. I think it can be repaired but what do I know.

Bill
He looked like a much, much dirtier version of that.

Someone asked if it could have actually been him. I would say that is highly unlikely. Nonetheless, it was an odd experience.

Love the white saddlebags on that Honda.

Pirsig's Endorsement?

I parked my bike this afternoon and was paying the parking meter a few feet away. About that time, a very old man who appeared to be homeless with a face covered with sores wandered up. He turned to face in the direction of my bike and stared for a while and then said "spectacular" and sta...

Re: Out of gas...

Hi Sander: A couple of things you are not factoring into the mileage equation is that new bikes are going to get less mileage than one that is run-in. My 2007 initially started out around 37-40 mpg and improved over time after about 5,000 miles and now delivers around 45-55 mpg depending on wrist c...

Re: But I prefer the "old" speedo...

The new one is definitely smaller and harder to read. I'm blind as a bat but with my glasses I have no problem reading a book whether it's at my nose or beyond my reach. Reading that speedometer is a problem though. I frequently find myself squinting to delineate whether I'm going (1) 40, 50 or 60 o...

I've long known that it handles great at 90. It's good to know that 70 is an option as well.

Re: Headlight net on r1200r 2011

Good tip on the lexan headlight cover. I was not aware of that. I guess I'm more interested in the look of the wire mesh than actually protecting the headlight. I have been considering the BMW LED turn signals as well for two reasons. First, I don't think the Rizomas are going to be easy to bolt ont...

Out of gas...

Running out of gas isn't newsworthy to be sure but it happened to me last night. Fortunately, I ran out at the top of a very long hill and a gas station was located at the bottom of the hill. Coasting was required but not pushing. I disclose my stupidity because there were a couple of interesting di...

Re: OBC

I imagine the low fuel warning light is an element of the OBC as well.

My favorite is the themometer. Without it I don't know whether to be hot or cold. I've been looking for an aftermarket rain gauge so I'll know when to be wet.

If you really like the stock seat, I would say you're in luck. When it wears out I'm sure there are quite a few sitting in closets and garages that people will gladly sell you at a great price.

Re: Headlight net on r1200r 2011

I too would like the metal mesh over the headlight but I really want a different headlight. I would love to put the light from the F800R or K1300R on my R1200R with the asymetrical bikini fairing. AC Schnitzer has a kit to do just that but at $1,200 it's not happening anytime soon. I put a set of Ri...

Re: Standard ABS On All BMW Motorcycles

I took the MSF BRC-2 course Sunday. When I did the panic braking test in the end of course rider assessment, I am told that I stopped from over 20 mph in 17 feet. (I doubt that's possible but it was fast.) The instructor couldn't mark me down for stopping too quickly in a panic braking test, since t...
