Re: Coming back to BMW... on a K1200R Sport

I have migrated to the K1200R sport as well. I have the same color as yours. I left my R1150R to someone who will give her the love she deserves. You got a smoke'n deal from the dealer in FL. I bought mine from a guy who bought this bike as his first bike. He paid $16,800 OTD on Dec 22, 2007 from th...

18 liter Marsee

I bought the Marsee 18 liter magnetic bag for my Ducati. It also works great on both my R1150R and the new R1200R. It is only in the way when fueling. Easy to put on and off though. I have stuffed it many times while running errands to the market for dinner. It always amazes me how much I can put in...

Hey Crash, Congrates on the ride. I can get worse, you might want more than one! I currently live in Orange County but once a month I trailer my bike to Saratoga with the wife to visit family. I usually take the R/R for Saturday rides up and down various roads along Skyline with a breakfest stop at ...

I put the Pirelli Strata on while they had the sale (several months ago) and so far I like the feel. No rain so far this year so can not comment on performance in the wet.

Put about 2K miles on and so far they are good.

I put them on my R1150R and the R1150RT.

did you buy that bike?

Well, Did you buy it? I bought an 02 with 13,750 miles and six months left on the warranty. I did test ride the bike. It has ABS, heated grips (although the heated grips don't seem to work that well). I paid $7500 back in Jan 06. I have put 4K miles on the bike and have put new tires and the 12K ser...

RT R and GS

I feel somewhat qualified to chirp in on this subject. Here is how I describe the use of the three bikes: For a day ride through the mountains I ride the 1150R. Nimble and quick. I have the large top bag and system bags for the side. More than two days and any amount of freeway riding and it is the ...

areo flow wind screens

I have a '02' with the AeroFlow sport screen, no tank wings (but I want to try them). I live very close to AeroFlow and Paige was very helpful with the install. He actually did the entire install for free. I'm 5'6" and the air flow is just over my eyes (perfect for me). No buffeting or turbulen...

mc trailer discussion

I have a product called "trailer in a bag". It is made in Florida and sells for about $1k. I have hauled everything from my 1150RT to a 225lb honda cr250. It handles great, however, it does take two to load and unload. The cool thing is that when your done using it you can dis-assemble the...

ins in CA and the best place to live

My ins is only $550/yr for the same limits as you stated, but that is for three bikes. 2002 F650 2002 R1150R 2004 R1150RT. I live in Newport Beach, CA, which by the way is REALLY the best place to live. Even better than where the beekster lives near Oceanside. Much better resturants up here. However...

older BMW airhead is a good idea

I also like the idea of an older airhead as a first bike, however..... My first was a 1998 R1200C. Still a heavy bike but has a lower seat and fairly low power 61bhp. The was my first street bike ever. Had a couple of dirt bikes but no other street bikes. Taking the safety class is a "no-braine...

I agree that the R1150R and the R1100S are too similar a ride for me. I also agree that having the 650GS is a nice contrast. For me I take the 650GS when I'm just running a few errands around town. I limit my freeway use with that bike. Of course, the off road ride is great on the GS. I keep the R11...

trailering motorcycles

SoCal, The "trailer in the bag" bike trailer is assembled with pins and clips. There are no bolts and nuts to work loose, shear or strip. I have used this trailer for about one year and have had no problems with the product. I have trailered my R and my 650GS to the bay area 8+ hours of tr...

tie down points and trailer in a bag

Beemer-biker is exactly correct. The tie down points are the forks just above the lower brace and under the two side covers on the left and right sides. Do be sure to miss the break lines. Use soft ties!!!! If possible use soft ties with the ratchets. They're expensive $30 for two and you need four....

I have the same problem with my 02 1150R. I thought the problem might be that cold air is contantly flowing over the grips and keeping the temp. down. I was going to install hand guards to see if the temp stayed warmer, but haven't done that yet. My grips on the RT stay very warm to hot, but the mir...

kudos to this forum

Relatively new here, but that discussion was interesting, educational, and entertaining.

I'm not a seasoned mechanic, but took lots of physics in grad school and could follow the discussion.

Do I want to my own TB sync? Probably not, I'll just pay someone to do it.

Thanks for the education.

I just installed the AeroFlow sport screen last week and think it is just right for me.

I'm a short 5'6" and the sport screen throws the air just over my helmet.

there is hardly any air behind the screen and I think it is much quieter than the BMW sport screen.

garmin 76C

I have been using the Garmin 76C for many months. I love, color display, easily read in the sun, 24 hours on a set of AA batteries. It is the marine version and Garmin says it will float for 30 mins. 128 meg of ram will hold enough maps for a very long trip. I used it throughout the ALPS trip and it...
