Jeff and I are planning to meet in Elkins for lunch Friday afternoon, then take some long indirect route to Franklin. We'll be there sometime Friday afternoon/evening. And I do have a door prize for the offering!

It looks like campsites are still available for this great weekend, and NASCAR is racing not too far away the same weekend, so book up early to guarantee a site!

Re: BEAKSTER BASH XV LaVale, Md May 16-20, 2018

Looking at the weather for Oakland, Md., I'm going to pass on riding up there today. Thunderstorms and hail does not make for a fun camping experience. Ride safe! I'll most likely get out for a day ride tomorrow, and next weekend I'm going on a multi-day camping trip starting in West VA, then Kentuc...

Re: BEAKSTER BASH XV LaVale, Md May 16-20, 2018

Some of you may already know, but I finally purchased a new bike and just got through the break-in service and going to do a camping "test run" this weekend. I'm aiming for Deep Creek state park in Maryland, not too far from the bash. If timing works out, I may try and meet up with you guy...

Hungry Mother Rain Ride 2017

Smaller group, but still a good time with GREAT weather (it wasn't much or a rain rider other than some isolated showers on Friday). It was the big NASCAR weekend in Bristol so the campground was filled up but we managed to put at least a couple of tents per site. Numbers: Eight Motorcycle Campers F...

Last weekend while camping at Hungry Mother (in southwestern VA), a couple of times I did the math I was averaging 45MPG per tank.

Re: Should you use Seafoam on these bikes?

I've been using Sea Foam on my bike since new. Most every time I fill up, I'll dump an ounce or two in the tank once I get home. No problems but can I attest that Sea Foam kept my bike running happy for over 159,000 miles? Maybe? They should pay me!

Use the lowest octane you can with the engine "knocking". You'll know if it knocks. In the warmer months, March through November, I can't get away with anything under 93.

Re: How many mpg are you getting on your R1150r

I'm getting around 40mpg in commute mode, and it goes higher on longer rides. The best I've had was 53MPG but that was maintaining a constant 50 MPH on the BRP for a tank full. Lately it's seemed to go down, and I blame ethanol.

Techflex braided cable sleeving is what I'm looking for. I'll try to find something comparable while at HD this weekend getting other stuff. If not I'll use amazon, thanks I have a bunch leftover that I used for re-wrapping my main harnesses - you're welcome to have as much as you need but it may b...

I like the idea of this, but the feasibility just doesn't allow it. I love the overall looks of the R1150R but would love to have a newer R1200 motor in it - the best of both worlds! I need a new bike...

Re: Tire blowout while riding at high speed, what's the likely outcome?

I've never had a "blowout" but did manage to run over a large screw on the express lanes and ended with a flat rear tire. I noticed it around the Pentagon where 395 has a couple of mild turns; I went around the first one and thought "somethings not right but maybe I'm not awake yet&qu...

Re: Tire Time

My local BMW/Triumph dealer was able to order me a Metzeler Z6 last week. $79. I picked it up Saturday and mounted/balanced it today. I love the feeling of a fresh front tire...like power steering! So far my mileage *I* got on my tires: Front tire changes model miles D208 12925 Z6 11101 Z6 10787 AV4...

Re: All in one biking boots: tall sole, weatherproof, no laces, and work appropriate

I have the "TCX X-Five WP Boots" and they are ok for walking in but I wouldn't take the dog for a walk in them. This is my second pair of TCX X5 boots, and my first pair seemed like a better quality leather (i.e. softer). I got the impression the Tourmaster boots are stiff leather so I sta...

Re: 12K Miles Weird

John, Did you use synthetic or dino? What year is your ride? Maybe in my year,2004,they made a mistake in the maintenance manual. Curious that Haynes repeated that. 6k miles certainly seems more reasonable. 166k miles with 6k oil changes makes a good case for following manufacturer's recommendation...

Re: 12K Miles Weird

The owners manual says change engine oil and filter every 6k miles (10k kilometers). Trans and final drive oils every 12k miles. Use an oil that meets the specifications. Some will argue to change the oil every 3k miles for "insurance". BMW gave a three year unlimited mileage warranty with...

I go from Springfield to Pentagon City too. We can meet up on the next bike/car repair project that either of us has. I ordered a new front tire and expect it to be in by Friday (tomorrow). If it does come in, I'm planning on changing the tire Saturday and you're welcome to come over and offer mora...

Re: Commuting to work in DC summer heat, don't like side cases, and I sweat profusely

I've been motorcycle commuting year 'round in the DC area for almost 20 years. I loved having my system cases once I got the BMW with system cases, but eventually I ended up getting a set of the "City" lids for them and made it even better. In the summertime I wear a "mesh" jacke...

Re: Tire Time

I've used the Continental motions and they are a decent tire but not a true dual compound so you don't get incredible miles out of them. Miles per cost, they are good. I'm used Metzelers, Dunlops, Avon and Michelin sport touring tires but can't speak to the Bridgestones. They are all good brands and...
