Re: woo-hoo
I'm convinced I will have my '02 R until the day I die. Like you, I don't fuss over it as much anymore and with 60K, it still runs great!

Re: Clutch Slave Cylinder
Maybe step one would be to bleed the clutch and take a look at the fluid that comes out as a sign what might be lurking inside the SC? That's a good approach...bleeding the clutch fluid is a routine maintenance item. DOT 4 brake fluid used in it is hygroscopic and needs to be changed every once in ...

Re: Denso iridium spark plugs
I had an Autolite Iridium plug loose the iridium pellet from the end of the center electrode after 3000 miles. I don't know where it went, but the bike wouldn't fire a lick without it.

Re: Plug Problems
He added that he lines up arrows that can be seen on the left side of the head. The arrows are inscribed on the back sides of the cam sprockets on top of both cylinder heads, and when they point outward horizontally that piston is at TDC. BTW, I don't remove the rubber plug to adjust valves anymore...

Re: True or false ?
No, I think throttle body balancing is not required after valve adjustments, but it probably will make your bike run smoother since if the valve lash on either cylinder was out of spec, then bringing it back to spec probably changed the air inspired by that cylinder, and if both cylinders are not in...

Re: Final Drive Vent
That's good info. I removed the vent cap a few years ago to see if there was a filter in there, but there wasn't. I figured BMW would've put a filter there (being Germans and all), and am happy to learn they did. I'll find something to keep the dust out. BTW, I dropped the bike on it's right side a ...

Final Drive Vent
After all these years I learned that the plastic vent cover on top of the final drive may have been responsible for the leaking grease seal at the input shaft I've noticed from time to time . After a good ride on a 50 degree day there was more of a stain around the rubber boot than I'd ever s...

You might consider a clutch plate modified with an extended spline housing. You can search this forum to find a manufacturer.

Re: How Can You Tell if a Cable is Bad
From what I've read, BMW cables have a teflon sheath that doesn't need to be, and shouldn't be, lubed with anything that will degrade it, including petroleum-based products or solvents.

Re: Alternator belt and a chirp
I found it too difficult to access the head of the left-side (of bike) alternator-belt tension adjuster-bolt (ABTAB) from behind, so I made an adjustment nut out of an 8mm-acorn nut with a short length of 8mm-bolt screwed in to it as a spacer to leave enough depth in the acorn nut so I could screw i...

Re: Oil Change question
Riverside said, " Maxine has 28,000 miles now. I seem to be using about 2 1/2 quarts every 6000, maybe more. That is high, Riverside. Most likely the rings didn't wear into the cylinders because of synthetic oil use early on, and it might have been ridden too tenderly as well... You could start...

Re: New 2004 R1150R
Welcome to the world of Moto-rad and this forum. Check that the cable ties under the triple-tree were not over-tightened at the factory. Most were, and it has lead to gremlins. Then search for "Oil level" in this forum to see how to check that. Do not over fill!!! And ride it like you stol...

Fuse #1 is for Instruments. They must have been backfed through the brakelight circuit after the fuse blew. Do you know why that fuse blew?

Towerworker: Great idea! =D> It gives an offender a more gentle reminder initially, but if they're still oblivious then they get the full Monty. Re: Toot...toot.
Towerworker, did the horn include a relay and did you install one for your Stebel? I left my original horn hooked up and just spliced the relay coil lead into the horn switch wire. This produces a tri-tone blast that will overcome a hermetically-sealed SUV with the AC blasting, the JBL speakers blar...

Re: Toot...toot.
I've had this same thing happen to me twice. My horn made them stop and look (in that order) giving me enough leeway to get around their bows. The first time it happened, I over-braked, locked up my rear wheel and managed to skid sideways past him upright, thankfully! I'm pretty sure that if he hadn...
