Re: 2011 leaking fork seals anyone?
Once again, I agree 100% with Don's analysis. The oil in the fork tubes won't be working as hard as in conventional forks because I understand it serves only as a lubricant and has no hydraulic function. I could even put up with some weeping (although I won't) but the problem is that (as Don pointed...

Re: 2011 leaking fork seals anyone?
Yeah we thought about the assembly oil concept also but after wiping it off a few times it kept reappearing and Deilenberger is right - there is a reasonable amount of oil in the assembly. Note these seals are a different design than the previous with an external spring -the earlier ones looked neat...

2011 leaking fork seals anyone?
Well my new bike is channeling my Norton - those of a certain vintage and masochistic tendencies who own British bikes will remember the chronic problem with leaking front fork seals which led to many lengthy debates about 'soft chrome', plasticine seals etc. After no problems with my 2007R I found ...

Re: Difference between 2011 vs 2010 R12R's and earlier?
Hi Leonardo, I have just sold my '07 with 63,000km and now have 2,000km on the '11. They are more different than you would anticipate from the stats (see my post -'the king is dead' and various other posts also). I think it is the low down torque that really gives it a different feel but top end pow...

Re: Spark plugs?
Hi Harald, if you can get plugs for $15, run, don't walk down to the shop and buy a few. Here in Oz, we are constantly amazed at the cheapness of bikes (and cars) in North America. In February 2010 as part of my 40,000km service all plugs were replaced - cost of 4 plugs (not including labour) was $1...

Re: But I prefer the "old" speedo...
Hi xprof Are you sure you're talkin' the right currency here - my speedo goes up to 240 km/h which is at about 5 o'clock so I can't imagine the North American version will be that much faster! On my speedo the needle is straight up at 120km/h which is ...75m/h, so don't let the speedo dissuade you f...

Re: The stock seat...
I am not alone! Someone else likes the stock seat. -2007 R1200R stock seat 14 hours , 1200km no problem. -2011 R1200R so called 'comfort' seat - standard feels lower than the previous stock seat, too soft and disconnected from the bike - I'm trying to get a swap from the dealer for a high seat but d...

Re: 2011 r1200r downunder
Just picked mine up tonight after its 1000km service also - yay, more revs to play with. As I said in a previous post, the stats don't give an indication of how great the bike feels in terms of both power delivery and handling compared to my 2007 model -it is an absolute delight. What is not a delig...

Re: The King is dead...
Why did I get a new bike Robert? The flippant answer would be -because I can! Partly true but believe it or not this is my company vehicle- I use it for work, riding between offices every day (how lucky am I!) and I have had a good few recent years. There is never any guarantee this will continue, s...

Re: 2011 R1200R Classic: 2 cents after a 2-mile ride
If we're gonna have this argument, I'd like to say that the best turn signal arrangement is on a Harley. Wanna turn right? Push switch on right handle bar. Done with the turn? Push same switch again. Hear, hear!!! After 4 years on my R1200R, I still prefer the Harley arrangement. It makes sense, th...

Hi fjm, I'm getting red of course (I'm over being the slowest-watch out Bodes...)
I have been told that the VIN for my bike has been allocated to me and hopefully mine will be in the first shipment but I won't hold my breath.
What colour are you getting and what dealer are you using?

Re: 2011 R1200R
The first thing we do is stop looking at the US prices - sheesh, about 2/3 of the Oz prices. Good luck to you, folks. FJM, I spoke to my dealer in St Peters today who quoted me an on-the-road price of $24,200. Because about 90% of r12s sell fully optioned, this apparently will be the only way they w...

Re: 2011 R1200R
Where are you tucker? In Oz, two dealers have told me mid to late March... and my order is IN!
Interestingly, price here has been reduced by 5.1% possibly due to our recent strong $. Wonder how others will fare - let us know when you hear.

Re: KTM gone
Hi Neil , No wonder you steer clear of new bikes with a 20% drop by the dealers! Re the r12r, I spoke to a dealer who is very cautious in what he tells me and has generally been right in the past. He assures me the official release date of the new model in Oz will be in March 2011. He also (cautious...
