Get a Wunderlich catalog and see what they have for the R1150R. I recall they have a section just for the R1150R. And I would not put anything on the cyl cover bolts like footpegs or rests. Impacts from various sources on those covers are bad enough without loading the bolts with other stresses from...

One thing you may want to consider is that the GS will probably retain a significantly higher resale than the R/R.

You really need to ride them both before buying. The GS handles differently than the R and you should decide which you like better. Yes, in my case, its true, but I kept my R1150R when I got the R1200GS because the R is still the best overall bike in the BMW line and I wasn't ready to part with mine...

You could sit on one of these...and they cost less than 20 bucks.. :D .. http://www.painreliever.com/duromed_DMI102.html DJ Good idea except you will be getting into GS seat height territory and you would need a seatbelt ! You can only pile up so much stuff on the seat ! My Airhawk and Alaska Pad s...

Well, the question would be more appropriate if it had been one asking how to mount an MG-34 on an R1150R. My suggestion would be to be sure to carry a German/Austrian pistol when riding a BMW, perhaps a Glock or Walther.

An Airhawk seat cushion is quite good. I used one with an Alaska buttpad over it on some cross country trips and was real happy with the results.

Well, for us old hippies, the New Riders of the Purple Sage are performing at the rally. Thats something to recommend Wyo and definitely better than the last couple years entertainment at the rally. Three years ago George Thorogood put on a good show in Ohio. The aliens left Devil's Tower intact in ...

Yes, by all means join and get the book. We rescued an airhead rider a couple years ago not too far from home and got him going fairly quickly. All he needed was some silicone grease on the back of his ignition module which would heat up and fail without good heat transfer to the mount. Hope to see ...

Ride over to headquarters and meet Vince and the staff and decide for yourself. I'm positive about it. You certainly will learn enough from ON magazine to make the membership worthwhile. In any case, come out to Wyo for the national rally this year. I think it will be fun.

Where ABATE is probably most off base is their mantra that safety gear promotes a sense of false security and should not be considered a major portion of ones defenses against injury. I always wanted to go to one of their meetings dressed up like the Michelin man. I'll bet somebody would buy me a be...

I just signed up for AMA membership for the first time in close to 40 years of riding. I didn't realize they had the libertarian view on helmets.

There are still some 07 R1200S models at the dealers that can be purchased for 10K less than these HP models, and they are fine handling bikes, not short on power or brakes either.

As others have said, you will gain confidence in your work each time you successfully complete something. Then you can start getting over-confident and may overlook a detail thinking you've done this all before, but it might have been so long ago that you didn't recall all the steps! I refer to a m...

I am personally aquainted with a fellow who had his tires replaced at a BMW rally by a PRO shop. Less than a year later he felt a vibration and suddenly the rear wheel separated and caused a wreck which totalled the bike and caused severe injury. All the bolts had backed out. He is employed by a BMW...

Yes, we had a nice visit with them right before Christmas ourselves. Charlie is now working on the car side and Ed is steering the ship for bikes. Well, as for the repair. I looked and we have had two of those pinion seals fail in the past couple years on different bikes. One was as I remembered, a ...

I'll have to look it up later when I get home dd, but it wasn't a major project for them. Might have been right at the end of warranty period, I'll look it up.

Unless the FJR is too heavy for you, I'd stay with it for a while longer.

It was a pinion seal on my rear drive and Twin City fixed it right up, no problem. Hope that is all yours needs too.

Hang on, this weekend is supposed to be a little warmer !
