Re: Getting better every time I ride it

I dont think you have enough spaces to store stuff on it. I think you can add a couple more saddle, tank and handle bar bags!!!    Awesome work done! Mine is a similar combo with the original silver tank. I loved this bike the first time I rode it. Not that I nee...

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

With the lovely weather here in VA last night (today's can KMArse) I took 'er out for a nice late night 24 mile ride. So far so good. Gonna keep fingers crossed. Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

Have the parts on order. I decided to have a mechanic buddy of mine look at the hoses. He said they were in good shape and didn't need replacement. Went over to Carquest and bought a couple of new clamps to check if it was just a settled clamp issue where the outlet and return fuel lines connect to ...

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

Obviously it's up to you but if the bike were mine I'd be wanting to change the filter and while I was at it I'd get rid of the plastic BMW quick disconnects. It's not if they fail it's when. You want neither QD's or a fuel filter to fail away from home. I had externalized the filter on an '03 I ha...

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

Yes, 6nm. Last time I changed my filter I didn't have a 1/4" drive torque wrench (I think it's a 10mm nut) so I tightened the same way you do lug nuts on a wheel. Then put a gallon or two in tank and rolled tank around a bit to make sure no leaks. I have a video somewhere of my first attempt. ...

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

When I changed my filter and lines inside the tank I did not buy stuff from BMW. But you DO need to use clamps that are specifically designed for high pressure fuel injection. NOT the common screw type clamps. I bought the proper squeeze type FI clamps along with a crimping tool. I'm not plugging t...

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

Hey all...hope you guys had a nice winter and are staying safe. I finally took the tank off (to get to the battery that died on me) and to investigate the fuel leak. I think it might be the fuel return line leaking where it was interfacing with the tank inlet. I felt some greasy stuff on that hose a...

Re: 2004 1150s...What’s your fuel efficiency??

Couldn't agree more. But it's so much fun to ride them hard. I always ride the ugly thing hard!! It then leaves me with a smile on my face for which I then accept its looks! Oh and yes I get low 30’s mpg Now now...R1150s have feelings   too. I personally think it’s one of the best...

Just got back after putting about 120-130 miles on the beast....averaged about 42 including highway, mountainous and flat roads.

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

A fuel leak on the right side is very often a leaking quick disconnect. The oem BMW QD's were little more than junk and stranded many riders (myself included). If they are original you'd be wise to replace them with these: https://www.beemerboneyard.com/cpcqkdiscon.html Thanks for the detail and th...

Re: 2004 1150s...What’s your fuel efficiency??

Thanks all for your feedback...I feel better. I do tend to idle my bike probably more than average because I don’t ride it often.

2004 1150s...What’s your fuel efficiency??

I am concerned a bit about my fuel efficiency. A lot
of my riding is within the city and the max I have been able to do is 36mpg. Any thoughts on this? Is it too low? What’s yours?

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

It sounds like the overfill vent for the fuel tank line. Or the fuel canister vent line. They both vent to the right side of the bike. If the tank was full of fuel and heat expansion of the fuel vapors vent out of the fuel tank. So why would this happen only when the bike started? I would assume th...

Re: 2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

How old is the bike and how long have you had it? What work have you done to it? Could be that the fuel disconnect seals had dried up slightly. Could also be that the fuel disconnects are cracked and close up with heat expansion It’s a 2004. About 29K miles with not repair history. Not in ideal con...

2004 R1150R Fuel Leak Unique Situation?

I have found several posts on this topic but mine seems to be unique in nature. My motorcycle has been sitting for a few - say 4 to 6- weeks. The other day when the weather was nice and I wanted to take it out, I fired it up and let it idle for a bit. I smelled fuel and there seemed to be a leak on ...
