Re: A sad farewell to one of the forums founder members...

I might have been on that Mt. Hamilton ride with you. I was lucky enough to have Pat behind me when I low sided on some sand. He helped me get the RR back on 2 wheels. I rode with him a couple times, always the gentleman.

Re: throw over bags rubbing on exhaust

Agree! If you go to a motor spares shop, you should be able to buy a stubby pipe (chrome, black , whatever) to fit to the CAT which'll make the job look nice 'n tidy. :) That is exactly what I did. A 1.75" chrome exhaust tip gives it a finished look. I never put the muffler back on, even after...

Re: throw over bags rubbing on exhaust

I removed the muffler on mine when I wanted full sized system cases. It isn't as loud as you may think. The CAT works well as a muffler. Kind of a nice sound in fact.

Get the Sargent seat, you'll enjoy the RR a lot more. Good luck with the headlight.

Re: Bar Risers

I use a bar back that raises the bars an inch, and back 1.5 inches. I have a bad back and sitting up straight helps a lot. I too am 5'7", but use the Sargent seat. The stock seat is one of the most uncomfortable things I have ever sat on. It makes you slide forward into the tank, and keeps you ...

Re: high speed turbulence or need balancing?

You didn't mention accessories that may contribute to aerodynamic instability. Such as a trunk. The trunk can really upset a machine when the air peels off the fairing and strikes it from the side, alternating from one side to the other. It almost feels like someone is pushing the back of the bike b...

Re: Paint For Plastic Bike Parts

Painting plastics can be challenging sometimes. You need the right paint that won't lift off the surface, or you need to seal the surface with a primer sealer before you color coat. If the paint is not compatible with the plastic, it will lift right up. You'll know it when you see it. I always had g...

Re: Pistols

I use a Colt Combat Commander for self defense, outside the house. Tough to beat a .45. I can hit the head on a target at 25 yards with it, no problem. Here we go again, talking old tech. Since I live in Ca. and am restricted to 10 rounds in a magazine, it doesn't make sense to buy something new tha...

I miss the days of a 500 rnd brick for $5.
Me too. Even at $20/brick it is far cheaper to shoot 22LR. You can't buy 500 9mm for $20. I love killing paper. :D

Re: Pistols

I agree with staying away from Thunderbolt ammo, I have had a couple rims seperate from the case requiring too much work removing it from the chamber. Oh man, I never had that happen. Failure to fire (squib), and inconsistent firing causing the weapon not to cycle properly have been my experience w...

Re: Pistols

I'd love to have a Hi Power. I have shot one that a friend owns, it maybe old tech. But it really works and can take a lot of abuse. Talk about old tech. I only own one 9mm. It is a S&W model 39. The first semi-auto pistol approved for police work. I'm not sure how old it is, but it has survived...

Re: Pistols

Don't count out the Browning Buckmark. It is a pleasure to shoot, and didn't cost an arm and a leg when I bought mine. It comes in many variations. It fires the 22lr round.

When it stops burning oil. Usually 12k to 20k miles. Speed up the process by riding it like you stole it.

Re: gun question

Also, I'm old enough to remember when gangs used "zip" guns -- homemade or improvised firearms. It may be a cliche, but it is still true that restrictions on purchasing firearms will not stop criminals procuring weapons. Criminals don't go through all the crap necessary to purchase a lega...

Re: gun question

The real problem with the fired bullet on file theory is, it is very easy to defeat. Anyone with a little knowledge of how those marks are left on a fired bullet, can alter the barrel of the gun, changing the marks on the bullet. It is as easy as allowing a little sand in the barrel, then firing the...

Re: 40K Miles?

I'd ask about the 36,000 mile maintenance. 40,000 miles for one of these is just broken in, but it needs regular maintenance. Cycle Specialties is a good place to get an honest opinion about your prospective purchase.
