Great work Scott and I really like the idea of camping and arriving early to allow time to really cover the region!

Civil War Ride!

Hi Jeff, Good to hear from you and certainly been a long time since we last rode together! The best way to do a Civil War ride is to try and start at the beginning and follow the battle fields in sequence. Not hard to do as most of the major battles in the Virginia Campaigns were within 90 miles of ...

Bash 08

Thanks John, I'll follow the thread along and both April and May are normally open for me as my responsibilities with ROADGEAR usually begin in June for the Americade Rally. I had a nice four day ride up to Americade this year (Lake George,NY) along the Blue Ridge and Skyline Drive and then visiting...

BASH o8

scottybooj, Any idea what month the 08 BASH might be in? I really enjoyed the first BASH and hoping to get back into things now that I'm somewhat settled down after a year long "time out" to build a new home and move. I have read the entire thread here and still don't have a clue what is i...

Rockster 12k supplies

DSKYZD, Looking at the Rockster service book I found the following: Transmission holds/requires .85 qts (.80 l) Final drive (rear end) holds/requires .26 qts (.25 l) This is indeed slightly more then one quart - maybe Sierra figures you really don't need two quarts as there would probably be some re...

After market plugs - top and bottom - for Rockster

This is probably old stuff but I want to confirm the correct after market plugs for my Rockster. Getting ready for the 12k service and since I have been off the forum awhile I was wondering if the information I have is still good. The following is the info i have for the top and bottom plugs - still...

They are indeed fantastic instructions and I wish we had a place to achieve that info so people months from now could see it! I change my brake/clutch fluid every year using the MityVac - about 40 minutes total time for the whole job - so, seems true then that one can change the brake "wheel ci...

Fantastic Phil!!! That is exactly what I needed - i was having a hard time explaining to this fellow where M 10 was!! Very clear now. BTW, a BMW mechanic told me one doesn't really have to have a degree wheel - just place the wrench at 12 O'Clock and swing it down to 6 O'Clock - same result! I guess...

Re Torquing Head bolts - 600 mile service

I am trying to help a guy out with re torquing the head bolts at the 600 mile service. I have the torque values and the procedure info but I can't find a diagram I used to have showing the location of the M 10 screw - it is down near the cam chain - would like to show a picture or diagram if anyone ...

Dave - you bring up a point that needs clarification - I was told by a mechanic that it is OK to replace the brake fluid in the reservoirs and line from the reservoir down to the calipers just like we have always done with non ABS bikes - and simply leave the ABS reservoirs alone - do them every two...

Pat is right on! Do what he suggests - all of it is easy to do - I can send you or post here the head torque procedure - nothing difficult at all if you are set on doing it yourself! I have procedures for almost all the other stuff you need to do - I can email it to you if you like.

If Rob says it - believe it! Really, when you think of it - the cost difference is so small why not go with BMW parts!

The 600 mile service is the ONE service that you should have a dealer do! Mainly, it is the first and only time you will need the heads re torqued! Also, they will, or you can re place all fluids, tyranny, rear end, oil and filter - you could take it and just have them re torque the heads - but sinc...

Glad you found some - I had to go to three different stores to find them - I bought extra and carry them with me as most of my riding buddies have BMWs - I have had to help two guys change out the clamps cause theirs started to leak while we were on a trip!
