Hope its not too late for some suggestions... I was just out in that area in May. If you havent already got a bike I'd highly recommend Dubbleju motorcycle rentals. Google it and it'll come right. Good bikes, good prices and a very helpful staff. I actually went north out of the city of the Golden G...

That wasnt the design intention of our beloved jugs??? Dang, who knew??? yeah not a long term solution but the cylinder heads are THERE anyway... It got me another 50 miles at times on my last roadtrip before I had to stop. For some reason, i had no problem doing this on the R12R I rented in CA but ...

my 2 cents, the dealer is simply doing himself a disservice. he did not sell a bike, so what, get over it. would he like to sell one in the future? does he want his service department busy? he better treat every customer that comes through the door like a potential sale, a potential loyal customer,...

Thanks for all the info guys!! Great as usual!! Flying into San Francisco Friday. Picking up an R1200R at Dubbleju Saturday. Pashnit did have some interesting tours but I prefer the lone rambling mode. Dubbleju;s rates are pretty impressive for new bikes and even has an older, 2000+ (I think) R1100R...

California or the Desert??

I need to pick the brains of those board members in the know and/or located in CA or AZ/NV. I have the first week of May off and am looking to go somewhere I havent been before and (of course) do it a motorcycle. Obviously BMW is preferred but wouldnt mind trying something from our Italian or Japane...

Man am I in the same boat as you all. Been a crappy winter for snow sports. Either no snow (but not cycling weather either) or snow but with temps 10 below zero with the wind chill. Not my idea of fun. I was looking at the snow bank next to the walk out basement door where my bike hibernates last we...

Smoking....no not in a good way...

Ok I was all hyped up for a nice January Ride in Vermont. No a flake of snow to be seen and in the low 50's (in the sun anyway) so since I cant go skiing, dang it I'm going riding!!! My last ride was early November under similar conditions. Was out for about 3 hours all told. I keep the bike in my w...

All good advice from the 1150 brethren. I also am a rare 1100 owner (for the moment anyway :D ) . Tony is dead on, the fast idle switch above the clutch is basically a non choking choke. I use it all the pressed forward to start from a dead cold then let it spring back to the forward position to fas...

4WD depends alot on the model. First question is does the vehicle have automatic locking or manual locking hubs. Most likely its the automatic hubs so you shouldnt have to do anything. On the off chance they are manual hubs, there would be something that looks like a dial in the center of the front ...

Gypsy, I forgot to end my advice post properly yesterday! If you read, take some good books with you, in case your snowed in. I just read Ghostrider by Neil Peart (drummer for R&R Group - RUSH). He rode a GS 1150 from Canada to Alaska, then down through the US to Mexico and Belize. Great read, ...

Its been said before but bears repeating... SLOW AND STEADY!!!!! 17 years of New England driving....all the high tech stuff doesnt replace a soft touch on the wheel and gas. No sudden accelerations or braking, nudge the wheel gently. 4WD can get you going from a stop but can also push you around on ...

The RF 1000 isnt any better for fogging. I hope there is a version for that model as well.

Sounds like the service manager just pocketed themselves a couple hour labor time and I'd bet a $1 that you were still charged for it!!

Not that I'm cynical....

Definitely hit and miss...one day in the 30's next 60's...go figure!! had to go up to White River Junction (about 60 miles each way) the other day. When I left it was in the high 50's and sunny. Word of warning to all...this seems to be an epuidemic!!!! I'm certainly intrigued.... Definitely innovative if nothing else and I agree that field of vision would seem to incredible. Big concern would be the structural integrity during a face plant. Is that "ring" going to hold up as well as the traditional chin bar??? And what the hell is the pr...
