Re: 1200S high handle bars

I did the conversion, actually a bike shop had to do it for me, but it makes a huge difference to the comfort factor.

1200S high handle bars

I have ordered a Schnitzer high handlebar conversion for my R1200S from Germany. After the Rockster I find the S uncomfortable on long trips but am not sure whether the conversion will be worth the trouble and expense. Has anyone done this? Any advice will be appreciated.

Re: Sold....... Sad.

My Rockster was sold last Sunday. My wife and I both shed a tear as it disappeared down the driveway. (she doesnt even like bikes!) I have reached retirement age and because my pension fund managers thought it was o.k. to plunder the fund (common occurence in this country) I am now forced to change ...

Re: Drive Shaft Leak

This problem was well covered on this site in October last year (when I had a similar problem.) You can ride the bike if it is a short distance but perhaps better to trailer the bike if you are still under warranty. The seals are not expensive but the labour can cost a bit.

Re: Engineen turns off all of sudden at idle status

You could also check the Hall Sensor & plate. a Faulty one could lead to the engine cutting out and diagnostic equipment can't always pick the problem up.

Re: AutoSwitch Install

sorry that my reply has to be negative. The previous owner of my 90S installed two fog lights by cutting into the wiring loom. He knew just enough to be dangerous. The wiring caught fire and I had to replace half the loom. ( nearly lost the whole bike). It's safer to buy those amber glasses or clip-...

Re: finally got a center stand...

Like "kneedown" I have also been riding BMW's for many years, I started off with a R60/2, two eaely G's ,r100RS and I still have a 90S and R50. All these bikes were a pain to put on the centre stand and I could never understand why it was relatively easy to park a Jap bike and not a beemer...

Re: Differance between Rokster & R1150R

Thanks for the info, this is really a fantastic forum, so much knowledge available. I must say that the guy who turned his GS into a roadbike did a fantastic job. He turned the proverbial ugly duckling into a swan.

Re: Differance between Rokster & R1150R

seeing the Rockster has a GS frame, I suppose changing it to a GS is possible. My bike handles good dirt roads quite well and I feel the tyres are the only limitation (and maybe the weight). I am missing out on some good dirt rides now that i have sold my old GS and am considering just changing the ...

Re: Ride from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore

Hey I know chicken briyani well. There are a lot of people in Natal that are of Indian descent and their food is scrumptuous. Only problem it is rather hot and spicy and I have to ask for mild portions when ordering. Sounds like you had a good ride.

Re: Reasons for selling my BMW R1100R

It is frustrating when things go wrong but perhaps your bike was built on a Friday. Regarding the fuel leak, the hose connectors received a lot of correspondence on this site and the items you had problems with should have been sorted out by the by the agents. I must say the Kawa that you refer to s...

Thanks Allan, nice picture. I had to smile a bit where they refer to "racing trim" I still battle to get my head around the mechanical complexity of this bike.

boxermania, as a matter of interest a German manufacturer in 1925 known as Megola built a 5 cylinder radial engine into the front wheel of his bike. The plus factor was that the centre of gravity was low. As for the negatives... I can only immagine. Not really a bike for the twisties.

It's a brilliant site, the originator must be a genius. I still cant understand the workings of the radial/rotary engine that was used on ww1 aircraft. Thw gyroscopic forces must have been tremendous.

That Bultaco is indeed beautiful and the styling is a bit Italian. The Italians built some beautiful bikes and I particularly like the smaller capacities of the 1950"s

The GS is by far the best selling bike in RSA. and consequently re sale values are higher than for the R. Only problem is I have heard some bad reports about the new GS leaving their riders stranded in the middle of nowhere due to electronic problems. Otherwise the GS is indeed the Uberbike in all o...

I must say that green Kawa looks good. Maybe it's because I like green bikes. My riding buddies all ride Harley's and they won't even give this bike a second glance. For the price it seems like a good buy if you like cruisers but unfortunately it has no street cred.

Thanks for the input. There has been a few complaints locally about bikes running hot, pinking and plugs not lasting and even piston damage all as a result of the air/fuel ratio which is incorrect and which cannot be adjusted. There is a garage in Cape Town now selling add on power unit which appare...
