Re: 2008 F800ST Just Stalls When Riding

There are as many solutions as there are stalling issues. Some bikes don't actually stall but rather quit just going down the road. Others stall when rolling off the gas and downshifting. And some (like mine) started stalling after 24K miles when hot. ECU flash is certainly one solution. But if it i...

Re: Disaster!!!! (I think)

How would i know they are lowballing my trade in, if they dont come right out and say they are giving me less because of the splines? What is a lowball amount? Actually they will probably not base their offer on the spline failure as they know they will simply sell it as is, no warranty to the next...

Re: Official : New R12GS, R12RT

Now with bold new graphics, 5% more HP for the GS, torque up a whopping 3lbft ! Doesn't seem like much of a gain for all the complexity added to the engine! I hear the HP2 valve adjustment is much more difficult due to the DOHC. I'm very happy that my 2010 R came with the "old" Hexhead en...

Well, it does seem a little high for the mileage. ..... allintitle: "r1150r" site:craigslist.org/mcy 1..6500 Good luck! That was freakin' awesome. I had given up on Craigslist because of trying to search multiple sites. Thank you. Why not look at the one for sale in the sell/buy section? ...

Is this a fair price for a R1150R

Well, its only been since February that I parted with my R1150R and am already wanting to get one again. Anyway, found a bike locally listed for $5495.00. Its 2004 ABS, heated grips and side cases. The bike has 55K miles on it. Not sure about maintenance history but will be calling them tomorrow to ...

Re: Finally !!

Congratulations! Did you really not get the rear fender? Mine was not on it when it was parked at the dealership and I insisted that they find it. I was told that they normally don't install it and just throw them away. They found mine or one for me and my wife picked it up a day later while I was a...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis

Just found this link http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/bmw_clutches.html posted on bmwsporttouring.com. What is interesting is the link http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/downloads/dificult_to_schift.pdf to the PDF which looks like a BMW Technical Service Bulletin. Funny when last year I got the Spline lube from...

Re: clutch gone

Sorry to hear about your failure. After putting in a new clutch and confirming that my R1150R was one of those that will eat splines every 10K, I decided to trade it on a F800ST before it failed. I still miss the RR as it is a really nice bike but just did not have the resources or the time to fix i...

Yes, there is some wear on my bike's clutch disc female spline, and a dealer trade in for a new (belt drive) F800ST will cure that before next year.

Re: Spline REPLACEMENT Time (high res pics added)

Andy,

I have emailed Terry asking for his permission to post the link to his photos on his Flickr account. Hopefully he will not have an objection and either Terry or myself can then post the link here. It really clears a lot of things up.

Regards,

Obaid.

Sometimes I'm hard headed and need to hear sensible advice a couple times before it sinks in. I'll be replacing the input shaft as well. Any suggestions on improving the alignment between the cases? Thanks! A Andy, take a look at this thread. Terry has some pictures uploaded to flckr that explain w...

Re: Fuel consumption? how far can you go...

I did find out while riding with a fellow board member on the same bike that my light comes on much sooner than his, even though we would use the same amount of gas at fillup! That is probably because the float switch on the R1150R (at least the 2002) has 3 or may be even four notches on the mounti...

Re: Fuel consumption? how far can you go...

On a trip to Florida (with bags and givi screen) I had my light come on around 190 to 210 miles pretty consistently. One tank I got to 212 and no light so pulled over and decided to fill up anyway. Yep! that was 53mpg and change. I averaged 50.5mpg for the whole trip. Low of 47mpg. It was all highwa...

Re: Tire recommendation(s)?

FYI - For the R1150R, Conti recommends 36/37F and 39R on Conti RoadAttacks. Thank you. I was not aware of that. I had/have the Bridgestone BT021 and my front tire had almost no tread left at about 5500 miles. Thank you. Looks like I will be sticking with the Conti RA or may now try the Roadsmart :b...

Continental Road Attacks. These pictures are after 9600 total miles. This includes mostly commuting. A trip (1 up) to Florida in June including return leg of 800 miles in one day in 100F temperatures. The last trip about 4 weeks back was a 1,200 mile, two day trip (1 up) to Arkansas. I am running 34...

Re: GIVI rack mount for factory BMW system case brackets

Biped, I have the GIVI rack with the BMW side rails and you don't need to take anything off other than the bolts that hold the side rails to the bike at the back. The GIVI rack slides under it (underneath the plastic fender). The bolts that come with the GIVI rack mount are a bit longer I believe an...

Re: Is this a symptom a clutch spline failure?

That is exactly what mine was doing, hard shifting on the downshifts; mostly in the lower gears. I finally gave into the all the "hype and hysteria" on this forum (plus others) and split my bike in half at only 10,800 miles to take a look. Clutch splines were virtually toast but the input ...
