But I can argue about it's looks. It's not butt ugly, but it's not a looker ether. http://image.motorcyclistonline.com/f/newsandupdates/racing_news/122_1006_ducati_wins_pikes_peak_international_hill_climb/33806790+pheader_460x1000/122_1006_01_o+ducati_pikes_peak+front_view.jpg A couple friends of m...

Re: dangerous test ride

Come on, Tom. After how many tens of thousands of sales of BMW motorcycles do we have a small percentage of final drive failures? I am not here to defend anyone, or to sell any Ducatis. I think the point is merely that bikes earn reputations that they may not deserve. So there aren't enough final d...

The MultiStrada has a fuel tank capacity of 5.3 U.S.gallons (20 liters).

dangerous test ride

O.K., I broke down and test rode a Multistrada today. It's every bit as good as they say it is. There are few bikes that I jump on -- and I ride a lot of different motorcycles -- that have that "instant get to know you" quality. The multistrada is one of them, however. Ergos are perfect. T...

Zurich Vehicle Service Contract - Extended Warranty

Just got a message from my dealer that I can get a Zurich Vehicle Service Contract that mirrors the factory warranty for an additional 4 years, with unlimited mileage for $1,170 plus tax.

What do you think? Yes or No? Good price or bad?

Wonderful shots, Peckhammer. Are you using one of the newer DSLRs to shoot the HD video? I am using a Canon XH-A1 [HD], shot on mini DV tape. Now that I've finally figured out how to use the darn thing, the results are looking really good. I have a DSLR on the way, which I intend on using for some ...

Re: Thoughts on the R1200R, GS, and MultiStrada

Your review is very interesting. I am not sure though I would trust a Ducati the same way as I would trust my BMW? How are they re reliability? Also- aren't the service costs higher than the ones from BMW? Stef. I've heard that, but I also know that Ducati made changes to the engine on this bike so...

Thoughts on the R1200R, GS, and MultiStrada

R1200R vs. R1200GS: A few weeks ago I was asking opinions about the R1200GS. Since I spend a lot at the local BMW dealership, I took a 2010 model out for a ride the other day. I seem to recall Stef saying that muffler was loud, and she is quite right about that. It's simply too loud for my taste.; f...

Stef. wrote:Something that I did not like with the dohc on the new GS which I test rode the other day is: the motor is much (!) louder than the 2009 GS model. Apparently customers asked for a louder (!) motor.
Is the motor louder, or the muffler? The muffler is valved, now.

Re: Do you ever feel like you need a GS?

I went to the dealer intending to by a GS, decided to test ride a GS and an R12 - wasn't even close, the R won me over. That's pretty close to my experience as well -- but it was Girl Wonder who liked the R much more than than the GS. The GS is too tall for her to comfortably ride, and as a passeng...

Re: SW Motech eng. guard install

The instructions suck, but the install is easy. No worries whatsoever. No fluid will leak, and the install is a snap. The 6mm bolts are a little difficult-- and stupidly small. After seeing the altrider crashbars for the GS which attach with beefy bolts, I seriously question this design. That said, ...

Re: Do you ever feel like you need a GS?

Even though I live in Arizona and there are lots of places to ride the GS off-road, I never did. Too big, too heavy, too expensive. I've heard that only 20% of them ever see dirt. I generally agree that "light makes right" but for someone who wants a comfortable dual purpose bike, the GS ...

Do you ever feel like you need a GS?

I spent a few hours shooting some footage with Jeremy of AltRider.com because they have a R1200GS in for "fitting." Bike is brand new (4 miles) and was on loan from a dealership. I really like this bike, and if my R wasn't so handsome, I think I'd be going "GS." Here is the foota...

Re: Safe Gas Tank Film protector ?

I am looking for a film protector that stick well and is really safe ? This is what I used: http://www.xpel.com/products/bulk.asp I bought it in bulk, made my own patterns and applied it to my R1200R and my car. I basically looked at the kits for these vehicles, and used that as a guide for develop...

Re: Akrapovic installation with pics

I wish you hadn't bought that thing, because now I might have to buy one! My big concern would be loudness. The stock muffler is too quiet, but I wouldn't want to go too far the other way just for the weight savings. I recently rode a K1300S, which was outfitted with the full Akrapovic kit, for a wh...

I dropped my bike of at AltRider this morning, and they mounted their skid plate on it. Consider it confirmed.

Agreed. I've read that it also works to stabilize the bike when hard on the brakes or over uneven surfaces.

The only downside to having high liability coverage (aside from paying for it) - is you're more likely to be sued. Exactly, and that should not be taken lightly. It appears that we may have similar experience in this regard. A firm I used to work for roped more than a few defendants just because th...

Re: New - Acerbis Hand Guards for R1200R

My Acerbis h/guards came with their own short, stubby bar-end wt. You take the BMW one off and install the Acerbis one along with the handguard with the provided bolt. I gotta be missing something then. There are two sets of what could pass for bar end weights, designed for open-end tubular bars. P...
