Re: Last gen hex head vs. the new water boxer
Whatever you do DON'T test ride the new LC roadster. I did and here is what I found: 1. The engine makes way more seat of the pants power and torque. Acceleration was noticeably greater than my 2007 R. 2. Clutch and throttle manipulations are more precise and take way less effort. 3. Turn-in is fast...

What are your Wunderlich Trophy fairing impressions?
So far I think the Wunderlich Trophy fairing best represents the style set by the R90S. Two links below show examples of the Trophy and the original R90S. I'm thinking the Wunderlich Trophy fairing would be a great addition to my R. Most of my trips are less than 100 miles, with a once in a blue moo...

Re: replacement of oem heated handlebar grips
I found the grip puppies too big for my hands as well. I really like the grips on my R1100S. The 1100 grips have a raised section in the center of the grip that fits into the center of the palm of my (too many years at the computer) carpal tunnel afflicted hands. So what I did was cut the the grip p...

Re: Oil Filter
With a little research I found a Mahle filter that fits both my R1100S and my R1200R and my Toyota Tacoma. Yes, the filter is a bit longer than stock. Yes there is a, IMHO, statistically insignificant chance that a rock may puncture the filter housing, I'm willing to take that chance. OTOH a longer ...

I used plastic paint to paint the inside of my sports screen. Bought the paint at a hobby shop. Krylon makes a plastic paint that bonds to plastics and supposedly needs no prep. Rich,
So glad to hear you are OK. After hitting 65, I'm all about keeping my body in good working order. Machinery is replaceable, human body not so much.
Be well and good luck healing.

Re: Do you warm up your R1200R?
Well...?? Just what is warming up your bike? Does running at idle for 30 sec to 1 minute constitute a warm up? What about ambient temp; Alaska in winter vs Arizona in summer. It's not so simple is it.

Re: R1100s owner interested in a R1200R
I have a 99 R1100S and a 2007 R1200R. For me its all about riding position. I too moved the bars above the triple clamp looking for better ergonomics, then I added Rapid Dog's barbacks. Still not anywhere as good for my body as the R. I'm 5'9" in my boots and 65 years old. I bought the S in the...

Re: Spark plugs?
Does anyone have experience with Autolite plugs in the R1200R? The Autolite site application look up shows either the 4162 or the XS4162 for the R1200R. However both plugs require a 11/16" socket which is bigger than the stock 5/8" socket, by an eighth of an inch. Some 5/8" sockets ha...

Re: DIY fuel strip replacement?
When I started riding the trip odometer was the only mechanism available to judge how much fuel was remaining until you ran out of fuel in the main tank. There was a reserve section of the fuel tank the could be accessed via the fuel petcock. The fuel petcock had three positions: off, on and reserve...

Hi Paul,
Any feedback on how the battery is working out for you, besides the great installation pics.
What's the starting power like?
Thanks,

Re: '07 R1200R
In 2008 I bought a used 2007. Its been fine, no complaints, no problems, except the battery. I replaced the battery in 2009 when it went dead. Luckily I had been reading this forum so I knew the stock Exide battery was not likely to last. So I had a Deka power sports battery sitting on the bench and...
