Re: Windshield
Not another forum windscreen thread !! We ought to remember guys 'n' gals, that we love riding motorcycles, which pass freely through flowing air and cause noise in our lugholes and buffeting in our helmets. It's a fact of life, unless you confine yourself to a Hyundai i10, ( ten thousand made PER D...

Re: Battery Drain
My pal Motorcycling Mo with his enormous GSA and me with my Rockster both solved the problem of trickle-discharge of a lead-acid or gel battery by fitting a readily-avavailble cheapo accessory called "battery isolator switch". Look on The Bay... It fits between the NEG pole of the battery ...

Re: U shaped fitment on forward exhaust attachment bar
easybee has the answer. It's a loop used for tying down the bike in transit overseas. Trouble was, back in the early noughties, the sub-crontacted cheapo cost-cutting shippers manhandled the bikes on-board ship, so they dropped a bike on frequent occasions and screwed up the precise alignment betwee...

Hi Phil, Do you have a link available for us to get a peek at the German 'michino' guy on eBay ? I'd ike to see whether he specifies the hardness rating of his machined item. Making a part like that to the necessary specs requires a great deal of expertise and specialised machine tools. And after an...

Re: Out in the cold (well for the UK)
Thank Goodness we don't have to put up with that kind of awful weather and those treacherous road surface conditions here on the south-eastern coast of Spain, in Andalucía. The only discomfort we have in January is the stunningly dazzling bright slanting sunlight flashing across the eyes in the morn...

May be the Heated Grips switch is already fitted on the right hand handlebar throttle grip assembly. That switch is fed with 12V from the twin connectors under the tank. Se attached fotos...

Re: ABS Failure
Don't panic - although the experience of suddenly losing BMW Motorrad's ABS mid-ride is one that's not easily forgotten. Take a peek at the state of the slotted ring on the front wheel - that's the transmitter ring, and as it passes through the sensor-block mounted on the fork-leg, the air gap has t...

Yes, Eric - loads of fotos of the lower GS pegs and the requisite feckling that was needed to make them fit. PM me with your e-mail as they're hi-res fotos. At 5'10" - I'm the archetypal standard male height and build - or so the department store outfitters tell me - the only prob I have with t...

My firt Rock was a Uk model and came with a Corbin heated twin-seat. Power for it came from the rear cubby.
¿ Could be that the connector on yours ?
I speedily sold it on the Bay and got used OEM seats instead, because here in Spain, our arses never get cold.

Michelin is now up to Version 5 of the Pilot Road series. M/cycling Mo has just invested in a pair for his GS-A year 2004. Brilliant rubber, he says.

Don't forget the revised front mudguard that's fitted to the Rockster and the wider back tyre - 180 instead of the roadster's 170. A salesman in an Edinburgh showroom years ago nagged me to by one of the then-new Rocksters and claimed it had the higher compression and forged pistons with revised cro...

Three or four weeks later now - into early December - and both bikes' slave cylinder replacements, along with their inner cavity seal in the back of the gearbox - are completed. Fitted one of the newly-sourced longer-hubbed clutch plates into Motorcycling Mo's year'04 GS-A and he says it now shifts ...

Re: No start in cold
Cleaning a starter motor is no big deal. Yes, they do get gummed up on the pinion which the small gearwheel slides to-and-fro on. The armature also gets coated in atmospheric gunk - remember, we live in a polluted world. If you can get to the armature and brushes, give them a good clean so that the ...

Re: Clutch Smell after riding ~100 miles
I gather that BMW changed to a hydraulically-actuated clutch when the slightly more powerful 1150 range of motors was introduced. The extra power from that motor required a stronger slutch diaphragm spring, which would have meant a heavy lever operation, so they changed from cable to DOT4. Make sure...

Believe me, RiceBurner, commuting on 2 wheels inside the London emission zone can in no way whatsoever be described as 'fun'. The OEM Aux Power Socket should already be on the Starter Motor Plastic Cover with its own little spring-loaded flat to keep out the weather- viz:- https://i.postimg.cc/GhGGH506/Starter-motor-cover.jpg ...and there should also be a two-pole socket wired into the starter motor cabling to fit onto thi...

OMG - what a sad case of spline wear ! Makes me wonder whether your E80 Rock was / has been a victim of the rumoured "shipping-crate-being-dropped" effect that was supposed to mis-align the gearbox-to-crankcase factory setup when brand-new overseas-market bikes were shipped. Chronic spline...

A firm in Germany - RHElectronics - repairs the unit. The guy is Rainer Hutterer in Hauptstraße 18, D-82285 Hattenhofen, a village located between Stuttgart and Ulm in the pretty, orcharded foothills of the Swabian Jura. Costs less than a used - or, God Forbid, a new one - including shipping. What u...
